The Homeland Security Department said Thursday it will halt deportation proceedings on a case-by-case basis against illegal immigrants who meet certain criteria such as attending school, having family in the military or are primarily responsible for other family members’ care.
The move, announced in letters to Congress, won immediate praise from Hispanic activists and Democrats who had chided President Obama for months for the pace of deportations and had argued he had authority to exempt broad swaths of illegal immigrants from deportation.
“Today’s announcement shows that this president is willing to put muscle behind his words and to use his power to intervene when the lives of good people are being ruined by bad laws,” said Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez, Illinois Democrat.
In the letters to Congress, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said her department and the Justice Department will review all ongoing cases and see who meets the new criteria on a case-by-case basis.
“This case-by-case approach will enhance public safety,” she said. “Immigration judges will be able to more swiftly adjudicate high priority cases, such as those involving convicted felons.”
The new rules apply to those who have been apprehended and are in deportation proceedings, but have not been officially ordered out of the country by a judge. Miss Napolitano said a working group will try to come up with “guidance on how to provide for appropriate discretionary consideration” for “compelling cases” in those instances where someone has already been ordered deported.

If you think Obama cares about the rights of gays, guess again. He could care less. This is a test case to see how far he can go in ignoring the rule of law and getting away with it. And maybe snap up a few votes before 2012 at the same time.
The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), signed into law by Bill Clintion in 1996 basically affirms that the institution of marriage is between one man and one woman. Several lawsuits have been filed challenging the law, specifically section 3, where it states that the federal government will not recognize gay marriage in any matter of law. It is the responsibility of the Justice Department to defend federal law in court. Barack Obama has ordered the Justice Department not to defend this particular law, because he has unilaterally decided that it is unconstitutional.
That is correct. Obama has installed himself as a the Supreme Court Justice and ordered Eric Holder not to defend the law in court. This essentially leaves the law defensless in a court room. What would be your chances of winning a case without any defense at all? Eric Holder scrawled a letter to John Boehner, and made it clear that it is they that will define the law now.

“[T]he President and I have concluded that classifications based on sexual orientation warrant heightened scrutiny and that, as applied to same-sex couples legally married under state law, Section 3 of DOMA is unconstitutional,”

The Obama administration is preparing a stepped-up approach to policing Internet privacy that calls for new laws and the creation of a new position to oversee the effort, according to people familiar with the situation.

The strategy is expected to be unveiled in a report being issued by the U.S. Commerce Department in coming weeks, these people said. The report isn't yet final and could change, these people said.

In a related move, the White House has created a special task force that is expected to help transform the Commerce Department recommendations into policy, these people said. The White House task force, set up three weeks ago, is led by Cameron Kerry, the brother of Sen. John Kerry (D., Mass.) and Commerce Department general counsel, and Christopher Schroeder, assistant attorney general at the Department of Justice.

Are they actually trying to create a War? This has got the be the stupidest thing I have ever seen from any United States Government. This is going to a foreign country to deal with a state in the US.
Where is that in the Constitution? This is what causes Kings and Queens to be overthrown.

An indignant President Obama complained last week, "I can't spend all of my time with my birth certificate plastered on my forehead." Fine. How about plastering a copy of his presidential oath of office there instead? The kowtowing commander-in-chief is in dire need of a daily reminder that his job is to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States" -- not international law or global diktats.
Case in point: Last week, Obama's State Department handed in America's first-ever report to the United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights in conjunction with something called the "Universal Periodic Review." In short, the 29-page document is a self-aggrandizing report card touting the administration's far-left domestic and foreign policy initiatives for the world's approval. The report boasts of racial- and gender-bean-counting in the executive branch; Justice Department outreach to Muslim grievance groups opposed to post-9/11 security measures; teachers' union payoffs in the federal stimulus law; continuing commitment to closing the Gitmo detention facility for enemy combatants; and the illusory lifesaving effects of Obamacare on minorities through "expanding community health centers" (which have yet to be built, but not that it matters in our Nobel Peace Prize-winning president's age of post-achievement).
The report also includes a section on "values and immigration," which essentially singles out Arizona's immigration enforcement law as a human rights deficiency "that is being addressed in a court action."
In response, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer rightly blasted Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the Obama administration for succumbing to "internationalism run amok." Brewer pointed out in a letter to Clinton, "Human rights as guaranteed by the United States and Arizona Constitutions are expressly protected in S.B. 1070 and defended vigorously by my Administration. In fact, the Department of Justice has correctly not included these so-called 'human rights' issues in the current litigation against the State of Arizona." Somehow, that inconvenient detail escaped the Foggy Bottom bureaucrats' notice.

  PHOENIX - A Latino group comes out in support of Arizona's immigration law.
  The Arizona Latino Republican Association is the first Hispanic organization to publicly challenge the lawsuit by the U.S. Department of Justice - and to show its support for SB 1070.
  "The other organization..I'll call them..the social justice groups of the left wing..they threw out this verbage..racism, discrimination, nazis..they're just trying to drum up fear amongst the public and the sad thing..if we live in a society where nobody reads anymore, they're spoon fed by TV and that's why I'm challenging..to pick up the bill and read it and not believe the rhetoric coming out from the left." said Jesse Hernandez, the A.L.R.A's chairman.
  The group says it supports the law because it does no more than the federal law already allows.

  Seven people were arrested as they blocked traffic at 4th Avenue and Washington Street, holding a sign reading, "Stop SB1070: We Will not Comply." The street was cordoned off in front of the courthouse and police dressed in riot gear.
  According to Phoenix Police spokesman Steve Martos, the protesters were told they had two hours to protest and were then told to disperse. When they didn't the seven were taken into custody without incident.
  The protesters said they want to show civil disobedience and even if the law goes into effect they won't comply.
  Some supporters of the law waved signs and clutched American flags, and about a half dozen had handguns hanging from their hips.

  Debbi MacNicol, a 55-year-old Phoenix psychiatric nurse who carried a gun on her hip and wore a T-shirt that read "Don't Tread on Me," said she supports the law because she fears Mexico's drug war will spill over into Arizona.
  "It wasn't as much an issue until it started putting our lives at risk," she said.
  Renee Taylor also showed her support for the law with a sign.
  "The illegals need to come here legally," Taylor said.

Clinton: Justice Department To Sue Arizona Over Immigration Law

During a June 8 interview on an Ecuador news station, Clinton said that President Obama firmly believes that the Federal government should define immigration policies, and that the "Justice Department, under his direction, will be bringing a lawsuit against the act." Clinton—stating that they are continuing to "review" the law—Arizona Governor Jan Brewer fired back, expressing again her willingness to meet the Federal government in court. "To learn of this lawsuit through an Ecuadorean interview with the secretary of state is just outrageous," she said. "If our own government intends to sue our state to prevent illegal immigration enforcement, the least it can do is inform us before it informs the citizens of another nation."

The ruling came in a lawsuit filed against President Obama and White House spokesman Robert Gibbs. One week ago, a federal judge in Wisconsin ruled that the president's declaration of a national day for prayer was unconstitutional. The government today informed the court that it will appeal the decision. Since 1952, when Congress required the president to issue a proclamation designating a national day of prayer, all presidents have done so. Beginning in 1988, the day has been the first Thursday in May, because Congress amended the original law to declare it the day for the event. that "does not mean that the government may enact a statute in support of it, any more than the government may encourage citizens

The suburban Philadelphia woman, Colleen R. LaRose, is accused in the indictment filed Tuesday of trying to recruit fighters, as well as agreeing to murder the artist, marry a terrorism suspect so he could move to Europe and martyr herself if necessary. LaRose is "one of only a few such cases nationwide in which females have been charged with terrorism violations," said U.S. Department of Justice spokesman Dean Boyd. LaRose, 46, of Pennsburg but with close ties to south Texas, has been held without bail since her Oct. 15 arrest in Philadelphia. "She never talked about international events, about Muslims, anything," he told the newspaper. "It's very strange. I still can't believe it."

US 'Jihad Jane' charged with planning terror attacks in Europe

clipped from www.telegraph.co.uk An American woman known as "Jihad Jane" was charged by US prosecutors on Tuesday with recruiting jihadist fighters to plan terror attacks in Europe and South Asia. Colleen LaRose, a woman from suburban Philadelphia who was "desperate to do something" to help suffering Muslims, is also accused of agreeing to kill a Swedish citizen on orders from unnamed terrorists. Miss LaRose, who is believed to be 47, is alleged to have travelled to Sweden to carry out the killing, but it is understood she was stopped by the authorities before she could do it. A Justice Department statement said she was recruited over the internet by a contact who ordered her to kill the target in a way that would frighten "the whole Kufar [non-believer] world". They also allegedly recruited men online "to wage violent jihad in South Asia and Europe, and recruited women on the internet who has who had passports and the ability to travel to and around Europe in support of violent jihad", said the statement.

clipped from motorcitytimes.com I was perusing Strategy Page and an article caught my eye, China:  We Are Bad And We Are Proud. As I read the story, I was stuck by some very interesting parallels. Via the Aforementioned Strategy Page: the Chinese government spends most of its (public) effort on the Internet trying to control what it considers bad behavior. In addition to shutting down thousands of pornography sites, and arresting hundreds of the people behind this thriving industry, the government thought police are also after cell phone users who text dirty to each other. (emphasis added) I realize the U.S. Government is not going after people who text dirty to each other (note to Kwame Kilpatrick, stay out of China) but Obama’s Justice Department is asserting that it’s is legal to track your cell phone location. motorcitytimes.com
