If you think Obama cares about the rights of gays, guess again. He could care less. This is a test case to see how far he can go in ignoring the rule of law and getting away with it. And maybe snap up a few votes before 2012 at the same time.
The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), signed into law by Bill Clintion in 1996 basically affirms that the institution of marriage is between one man and one woman. Several lawsuits have been filed challenging the law, specifically section 3, where it states that the federal government will not recognize gay marriage in any matter of law. It is the responsibility of the Justice Department to defend federal law in court. Barack Obama has ordered the Justice Department not to defend this particular law, because he has unilaterally decided that it is unconstitutional.
That is correct. Obama has installed himself as a the Supreme Court Justice and ordered Eric Holder not to defend the law in court. This essentially leaves the law defensless in a court room. What would be your chances of winning a case without any defense at all? Eric Holder scrawled a letter to John Boehner, and made it clear that it is they that will define the law now.
“[T]he President and I have concluded that classifications based on sexual orientation warrant heightened scrutiny and that, as applied to same-sex couples legally married under state law, Section 3 of DOMA is unconstitutional,”

Bikers protest Westboro Baptist demonstrators at Arlington burial

As a Christian these people tick me off. I said it before and I will say it again. These protesters have no right to call themselves Christian. Nothing they are doing has anything to do with being Christ Like.
But, to see how the Bikers of America rode in to drown them out? This is totally classic. I hope to see much more of this when it comes to these wanna call themselves Christian lunatics.

A group of motorcyclists staged a counter-demonstration Monday at the Arlington National Cemetery burial of a local Navy SEAL, parking motorcycles and revving engines to oppose a protest by members of the fundamentalist Westboro Baptist Church of Kansas.
The motorcyclists, many clad in boots and leather, lined up along Memorial Drive in front of the small group of protesters, opened the throttles of their engines to drown their singing and saluted as the funeral cortege passed.
Members of Westboro, who often demonstrate at military funerals, are the subjects of a Supreme Court case that seeks to decide whether they have a right under the Constitution to stage such inflammatory demonstrations.
The court is scheduled to hear oral arguments in the case Wednesday.

1st Amendment protects military funeral protesters

Shirley Roper-Phelps, a prominent member of th...Image via WikipediaI normally don't post stuff like this, but in this case I just had to say something. On one had I'm glad to see the courts actually standing up for the Constitution for the first time in what seems a very long time now.
On the other hand, the Westboro Baptist Church in this case have got to be doing one of the stupidest things I have ever seen a Church do.

Their signs DO NOT reflect Christianity in any way shape or form. Nor, do they reflect anything that has to do with Christ and their actions are far from doing anything that has anything to do with the Bible itself.

These people disgust me. they make me sick and I cannot believe they actually have the guts to call themselves Christian.


Here they live under the same banner of the United States of America, Protesting the very people who are protect their rights to do what they are doing. I would love to see how far they would make it doing this in any other Country other then the U.S.A.

Knowing many soldiers out there Fighting and more that have returned myself. I feel the need to share to them again. These people DO NOT reflect Christianity. As a Christian I will say this to the soldiers out there. Ignore these people. God Loves you no matter what you have done out there. Jesus died for those terrible things WE ALL have done. So that we may choose Him and be able to go Home. When He rose from the dead, He now has that power to remove all sin for us to do so. Including you and them.

That said. The Westboro Baptist Church. Knock it off. Stop protesting funerals like a bunch of idiots. You are not reflecting Christ, or God or the Bible with any of your actions. It's people like you all that give Christianity a very bad name, and you wonder why people don't want to be saved?
THEY DON"T WANT TO TURN OUT LIKE YOU!

Is our Country in need of God? Yes. But, it has nothing to do with any sign these people are showing and being rude to the people who fight to protect the very thing they are out there doing.
To the Military, You Rock! I thank God and Pray for you all everyday.May God bless you all and help you through everything you have to face and go through.

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that the First Amendment protects fundamentalist church members who mount anti-gay protests outside military funerals, despite the pain they cause grieving families.
The court voted 8-1 in favor of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan. The decision upheld an appeals court ruling that threw out a $5 million judgment to the father of a dead Marine who sued church members after they picketed his son's funeral.
Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the opinion for the court. Justice Samuel Alito dissented.
Roberts said free speech rights in the First Amendment shield the funeral protesters, noting that they obeyed police directions and were 1,000 feet from the church.
"Speech is powerful. It can stir people to action, move them to tears of both joy and sorrow, and — as it did here — inflict great pain. On the facts before us, we cannot react to that pain by punishing the speaker," Roberts said. "As a nation we have chosen a different course — to protect even hurtful speech on public issues to ensure that we do not stifle public debate."
Alito strongly disagreed. "Our profound national commitment to free and open debate is not a license for the vicious verbal assault that occurred in this case," he said.
Matthew Snyder died in Iraq in 2006 and his body was returned to the United States for burial. Members of the Westboro Baptist Church, who have picketed military funerals for several years, decided to protest outside the Westminster, Md., church where his funeral was to be held.
The Rev. Fred Phelps and his family members who make up most of the Westboro Baptist Church have picketed many military funerals in their quest to draw attention to their incendiary view that U.S. deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq are God's punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality.

  • On Monday, Sotomayor voted against the Second Amendment. Apparently, telling the truth is not Sotomayor's strong point. To explain her anti-Constitution vote she said she couldn't find anything in the Constitution that said the Second Amendment that protected citizen's rights to bear arms. Sotomayer needs to brush up on her history. The Second Amendment was CREATED AND WRITTEN TO ensure our right to own firearms is not taken away.

    Obama is trying to convince America that Kagan is a moderate judge who will rule fairly. Kagan is an extreme Liberal activist judge who will vote to destroy our right to keep and bear arms.     Four Christians were arrested and jailed for talking to Muslims about Jesus, by order of police chief Ronald Haddad of Dearborn Michigan, who defended the arrests one week after the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals ordered those same police to let Christian evangelist George Saieg preach openly at a Muslim festival there.
    "We didn't distribute literature, or preach anything," said one of the four jailed evangelists.  "We spoke only to those people who first approached us, we talked only about Jesus' love...and within minutes we were handcuffed and jailed."  But Haddad was unrepentant.  "We did make four arrests for disorderly conduct," Haddad told Worldnet Daily. "They did cause a stir" [with their free speech about Jesus].  Is talking quietly about Jesus now disorderly, just because some Muslims get angry?
    "Allah Akbar!" shouted two Muslims as the Christians were taken away in handcuffs, by police who also seized the Christians' video camera evidence and refused to return video footage of the arrests.

    Live video is now on YouTube of another group of three evangelists being detained by the same police the very next day, because they distributed the Gospel of John on a public sidewalk outside the Muslim festival.  This new video got 15,000 hits in 3 days, after the police told those being held that city policy states Christian literature is not allowed within 5 city blocks of the Muslim festival, creating a "banned-Bible zone" in violation of the First Amendment.  Let's demand an FBI investigation by petitioning Congress. 




  • "The police are enforcing Sharia law in America," said one of the four arrested Christians, explaining that Muslim Sharia law is not just about putting Burkas on women, but also prohibits anyone from talking to Muslims about Jesus, and prevents listeners from escaping Islam by converting to any other religion.

    Giving Peace Advice to Terrorist Can Be Illegal

    WASHINGTON - The government can prosecute private citizens for giving advice to a foreign organization - on how to negotiate peace or take its case to the United Nations, for example - if the group is on the U.S. terrorist list, the Supreme Court ruled Monday.
    In the most important foreign policy and civil liberties case of their 2009-10 term, the justices ruled 6-3 that a law prohibiting "material support" of foreign terrorist organizations can be used against people who claim to be providing only peaceful, humanitarian assistance.

    "It also importantly helps lend legitimacy to foreign terrorist groups - legitimacy that makes it easier for those groups to persist, to recruit members, and to raise funds - all of which facilitate more terrorist attacks," Roberts said.
    Dissenting Justice Stephen Breyer protested that the majority's interpretation "would deny First Amendment protection to the peaceful teaching of international human rights law," on the grounds that it might enable terrorists to conduct sham negotiations.

Court splits sharply on campus Christian argument

WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court justices on Monday seemed to split sharply on whether a law school can deny recognition to a Christian student group because it won't let gays join, a case that could determine whether college nondiscrimination policies trump the rights of private organizations to determine who can — and cannot — belong to their ranks.

In arguments tinged with questions of religious, racial and sexual discrimination, the court heard from the Christian Legal Society, which wants recognition from the University of California's Hastings College of the Law as an official campus organization with school financing and benefits.

Hastings, located in San Francisco, turned them down, saying no recognized campus groups may exclude people due to religious belief or sexual orientation.

"CLS has all of its activities entirely open to everyone," lawyer Michael McConnell said. "What it objects to is being run by non-Christians."

Christian Students Claim Calif. Law School Discriminated Against Group When It Denied Student Funding

(CNSNews.com) – The U.S. Supreme Court later this month will hear what both sides agree will be one of the most important religious freedom cases to come before the court in years.

The case centers on a Christian Legal Society affiliate that was denied certification by a public university law school because the law students’ group requires its members to share core religious beliefs.

Advocates for the Christian law students said the law school engaged in what amounts to viewpoint discrimination against the student group.
At issue: in order to become a core member or a leader within CLS, members had to profess the particular views of the group -- including a pledge of intent to limit sex to the confines of traditional marriage.

Discrimination on the basis of religion is a violation of federal anti-discrimination law.
“No one else (was) thrown out, only those who believe in traditional views of marriage, so it’s not a disparate impact, it’s the only application of the policy.”

graduate capA judge in Montana has ruled against a high school valedictorian who wasn't allowed to speak at her graduation ceremony because she wanted to give God credit for her success. (See earlier article)

Rennee Griffith is now in her second year of college. She graduated from Butte High School in 2008 as one of the valedictorians, but when she submitted a draft of her speech to school authorities, her First Amendment rights were violated.
The attorney reports that Griffith wanted to mention Christ once and God once in her speech, something he believes was well within her rights. "She was not doing what was forbidden by the Supreme Court or the Constitution, which is proselytizing," he argues.

Pelosi says GOP has hijacked 'tea party' movement

WASHINGTON (AP) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is questioning whether the conservative "tea party" coalition truly represents a grass-roots movement.


In a broadcast interview, Pelosi calls tea party voters the "astroturf" movement. She says many of those voters have good intentions but that the Republican Party has hijacked the movement for its gain.


The San Francisco Democrat says the tea party coalition shares some common ground with Democrats, such as their dislike of special interests in Washington. She cited public disdain for the recent Supreme Court ruling on campaign finance that allows companies and unions to spend freely on ads that promote or target particular candidates by name.


Pelosi spoke in an interview with ABC's "This Week" that was airing Sunday.

Hillary's eligibility challenged in Supreme Court

A brief filed with the U.S. Supreme Court by Judicial Watch, which investigates and prosecutes government corruption, questions whether members of the "political branches of the government" can "evade the clear and precise language of a provision of the Constitution through the use of a legislative 'fix.'"

The dispute is over former Sen. Hillary Clinton's eligibility to be secretary of state.

The U.S. Constitution, Article I, section 6, clause 2, provides: "No senator or representative shall, during the time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil office under the authority of the United States, which shall have been created, or the emoluments whereof shall have been [increased] during such time."

The lawsuit asserts Clinton is ineligible because she was serving as a senator from New York immediately prior to her selection by President Obama as secretary of state.

Freedom has had its best week in many years. On Tuesday, Massachusetts put a Senate check on a reckless Congress, and yesterday the Supreme Court issued a landmark decision supporting free political speech by overturning some of Congress's more intrusive limits on election spending.

That was a shock and awe moment at the Court, as it also should have been to a Washington press corps that has too often been a cheerleader for campaign-spending limits. Mr. Stewart was telling a truth already familiar to campaign-finance lawyers and the speech police at the Federal Election Commission. Former FEC Commissioner Hans von Spakovsky recalled yesterday that in 2004 the agency investigated whether a book written by George Soros critical of George W. Bush violated campaign laws. Liberals as much as conservatives should worry about laws that allow such investigations.
