Anxiety levels are running high in these metros.

Every day overwhelmed Las Vegas residents flood the Stress Management Center of Nevada, looking for relief from their problems. They often complain of irregular work hours that keep them away from their families, and tensions that result from family health crises.

"Las Vegas has got its share of stressors," says Kathleen Grace Santor M.Ed., Ed.S., a therapist and yoga instructor who founded the center and has studied stress for 15 years. "The 24-hour day requires employees to work 24 hours a day. They're too busy, they have too much on their plate, and they're always hurried."
There's a good reason that Santor's business is brisk. Forbes found Las Vegas to be the most stressful city in the country, followed by Los Angeles, Calif., and Houston, Texas.
To pinpoint the most stressed-out cities, we measured the country's largest metropolitan areas on six metrics that can either cause or be caused by stress: high unemployment, long commute times, long work hours, limited access to health care, poor physical health and a lack of exercise.

Frayed nerves in Sin City

To 36 million tourists per year, Las Vegas is a place to blow off steam and get away from the pressures of daily life. But residents of the city are far from carefree. The housing crisis and recession hit the city hard, and it currently has a 14.5% unemployment rate, the highest of all the cities we studied.
Making matters worse is how few people are taking steps to relieve the pressure. Physical exercise is known to reduce stress, but Las Vegans exercise less than residents of any other big city--a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey showed that nearly 30% of all residents hadn't exercised in the past month.

  Hindus have welcomed "inter-religious dialogue and cooperation" program of World Council of Churches (WCC).
  "In our increasingly pluralistic societies, more inter-religious dialogue and cooperation are needed if conflict fueled by religion is to be constructively addressed… we must learn to live our faith with integrity while respecting and accepting each other", this WCC Program points out.
  Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that serious and honest interfaith dialogue was the need of the hour and WCC, being one of the largest religious organizations of the world, should come forward in organizing one.
  Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, suggested that WCC should invite leaders of major world religions and denominations and initiate the dialogue.

  Hindu extremists murder Christians in India

  The brutal and barbaric actions of Hindu extremists have gone on for decades in India, and Orissa has a dark history of inter-religious unrest, often triggered by Hindu suspicion of Christian missionaries. Cranmer is profoundly moved to share this plea from the Bishop of Phulbani in the Church of North India, who cries: 'I request you with tears kindly organise the prayer for us.'
  And so His Grace exhorts his readers and communicants to pray today for the persecuted Church in India, where nuns are being gang-raped, and many believers are being murdered, tortured or burned alive. Children are being hacked to pieces before their parents' eyes, and churches, community and pastoral centres, convents and orphanages have been burned down and destroyed. Elsewhere, Sisters of Mother Teresa have been attacked by stone-throwing Hindu militants with some being seriously injured. And mobs are terrorising believers throughout the area, marching and shouting "Kill the Christians".
  Cranmer has followed the appalling developments in Orissa via The Times, The Church Times, and other agencies, and he has to wonder why Britain's Hindu community has not condemned these acts of barbarism. Such atrocities might make one feel sympathy for the Muslims of Kashmir, who have been subject to manifestations of Hindu terrorism for decades.

  The allegations follow the British Government's refusal to prevent members of two radical groups linked to the worst antiChristian violence in India since Partition entering Britain.
  The US-based head of a Christian organisation that runs several orphanages in Orissa – one of India's poorest regions – claims that Christian leaders are being targeted by Hindu militants and carry a price on their heads. "The going price to kill a pastor is $250 (£170)," Faiz Rahman, the chairman of Good News India, said.

  Extremist Hindu groups offered money, food and alcohol to mobs to kill Christians and destroy their homes, according to Christian aid workers in the eastern India state of Orissa.
  The U.S.-based head of Good News India, a Christian organization that runs several orphanages in Orissa — one of India's poorest regions — claims that Christian leaders are being targeted by Hindu militants and carry a price on their heads. "The going price to kill a pastor is $250," said Faiz Rahman, the chairman of Good News India.
  A spokesman for the All-India Christian Council said: "People are being offered rewards to kill, and to destroy churches and Christian properties. They are being offered foreign liquor, chicken, mutton and weapons. They are given petrol and kerosene."
  Ram Madhav, a spokesman for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the largest hardline Hindu group, denied the claims. "The accusation is absolutely false," he said.

  In recent weeks, the violence has subsided but at least 11,000 Christian refugees remain in camps in Kandhamal, the district worst affected. "They are too scared to go home. They know that if they return to their villages they will be forced to convert to Hinduism," Father Manoj, who is based at the Archbishop's office in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa's capital, said.

A proposed DMV regulation to give citizens the option of securing the Real ID-compliant driver's licenses was not placed on the agenda of Friday's Legislative Commission, a spokesman said Wednesday. That leaves the agency with no authority to issue the licenses, which it calls Advance Secure Issuance licenses. Citizens needed to show extra identification before being issued the new licenses. A temporary regulation issued by Gov. Jim Gibbons that allowed the new licenses expired on April 30. In the first four months of the year, 46,000 Nevadans had secured the Real ID licenses, including 21,000 who were not required to under the regulation. The Real ID Act of 2005 was a move by Congress after the 9/11 attacks to prevent terrorists from securing legitimate identification. The next deadline is May 2011.

Opposition threatens Real ID program

A legislative vote scheduled Monday on whether to allow the state Department of Motor Vehicles to adopt regulations to make Real ID-compliant driver's licenses optional was delayed until Friday. But there were indications that the program might be scratched entirely. Assemblyman Marcus Conklin, D-Las Vegas, who canceled the meeting of the Legislative Committee on Regulations, said he would not be surprised if the regulation sought by the DMV is killed because of the clear opposition of some legislators. Conklin said the hearing was canceled because citizens at recent DMV hearings were left with too many unanswered questions. "My personal position is I do not want Advanced Secure Issuance (Real ID) mandated on the people of Nevada," Conklin said. "If it is going to be forced on us by the federal government, I think we should wait until the last possible moment."

Palin, Tea Party Activists Target Reid

Sarah Palin told thousands of tea party activists assembled in the Nevada desert Saturday that Sen. Harry Reid will have to explain his votes when he comes back to his hometown to campaign.

The wind whipped U.S. flags behind the former Alaska governor as she stood on a makeshift stage, holding a microphone and her notes as she spoke to the cheering crowd. She told them Reid, fighting for re-election, is "gambling away our future."

"Someone needs to tell him, this is not a crapshoot," Palin said.

About 7,000 people streamed into tiny Searchlight, a former mining town 60 miles south of Las Vegas, bringing American flags, "Don't Tread on Me" signs and outspoken anger toward Reid, President Barack Obama and the healthcare overhaul.

Palin told them the big-government, big-debt spending spree of the Senate majority leader, Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is over.

"You're fired!" Palin said.

Nevada DMV ‘Real ID’ program expands to Las Vegas

State DMV spokesman Kevin Malone said the Advanced Secure Issuance card program was working fairly smoothly Monday at a West Flamingo Road DMV office. Malone says applicants now need two forms of identification such as a birth certificate or Social Security card _ plus utility or phone bills, bank statements or other proof of address. Malone says people don't need to get the new DMV cards unless they're renewing or changing current information. Some states have balked at implementing the program under the federal Real ID Act. Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons enacted it as a way to prevent terrorists and illegal immigrants from obtaining ID cards.
