NEW DELHI, India (Worthy News)-- Two years after losing relatives and property to anti-Christian violence, survivors in India's Orissa state are still being pressured to "return" to Hinduism, according to a private investigation.

According to the preliminary report of a fact-finding team, "Despite the state administration’s claim of normalcy, a state of lawlessness and utter fear and sense of insecurity" is prevalent among the Christians in Kandhamal district who experienced anti-Christian violence in 2008.

The team, composed of attorney Nicholas Barla, rights activists Jugal Kishore Ranjit and Ajay Kumar Singh, visited four villages in three blocks of Kandhamal in early November.

In Bodimunda village in Tikabali, the team met a pastor who said he was closely watched after Hindu extremists forced him to become a Hindu. The pastor, whose name was withheld, said he had to convert to Hinduism to spare his aged mother, who could not have escaped the violence as she was not able to walk.

In the same village, Hindu nationalists also baned any vehicle used to transport Christians or their belongings while prohibiting Christians from obtaining basic needs.

  Hindus have welcomed "inter-religious dialogue and cooperation" program of World Council of Churches (WCC).
  "In our increasingly pluralistic societies, more inter-religious dialogue and cooperation are needed if conflict fueled by religion is to be constructively addressed… we must learn to live our faith with integrity while respecting and accepting each other", this WCC Program points out.
  Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that serious and honest interfaith dialogue was the need of the hour and WCC, being one of the largest religious organizations of the world, should come forward in organizing one.
  Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, suggested that WCC should invite leaders of major world religions and denominations and initiate the dialogue.

  Hindu extremists murder Christians in India

  The brutal and barbaric actions of Hindu extremists have gone on for decades in India, and Orissa has a dark history of inter-religious unrest, often triggered by Hindu suspicion of Christian missionaries. Cranmer is profoundly moved to share this plea from the Bishop of Phulbani in the Church of North India, who cries: 'I request you with tears kindly organise the prayer for us.'
  And so His Grace exhorts his readers and communicants to pray today for the persecuted Church in India, where nuns are being gang-raped, and many believers are being murdered, tortured or burned alive. Children are being hacked to pieces before their parents' eyes, and churches, community and pastoral centres, convents and orphanages have been burned down and destroyed. Elsewhere, Sisters of Mother Teresa have been attacked by stone-throwing Hindu militants with some being seriously injured. And mobs are terrorising believers throughout the area, marching and shouting "Kill the Christians".
  Cranmer has followed the appalling developments in Orissa via The Times, The Church Times, and other agencies, and he has to wonder why Britain's Hindu community has not condemned these acts of barbarism. Such atrocities might make one feel sympathy for the Muslims of Kashmir, who have been subject to manifestations of Hindu terrorism for decades.

  The allegations follow the British Government's refusal to prevent members of two radical groups linked to the worst antiChristian violence in India since Partition entering Britain.
  The US-based head of a Christian organisation that runs several orphanages in Orissa – one of India's poorest regions – claims that Christian leaders are being targeted by Hindu militants and carry a price on their heads. "The going price to kill a pastor is $250 (£170)," Faiz Rahman, the chairman of Good News India, said.

  Extremist Hindu groups offered money, food and alcohol to mobs to kill Christians and destroy their homes, according to Christian aid workers in the eastern India state of Orissa.
  The U.S.-based head of Good News India, a Christian organization that runs several orphanages in Orissa — one of India's poorest regions — claims that Christian leaders are being targeted by Hindu militants and carry a price on their heads. "The going price to kill a pastor is $250," said Faiz Rahman, the chairman of Good News India.
  A spokesman for the All-India Christian Council said: "People are being offered rewards to kill, and to destroy churches and Christian properties. They are being offered foreign liquor, chicken, mutton and weapons. They are given petrol and kerosene."
  Ram Madhav, a spokesman for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the largest hardline Hindu group, denied the claims. "The accusation is absolutely false," he said.

  In recent weeks, the violence has subsided but at least 11,000 Christian refugees remain in camps in Kandhamal, the district worst affected. "They are too scared to go home. They know that if they return to their villages they will be forced to convert to Hinduism," Father Manoj, who is based at the Archbishop's office in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa's capital, said.

Over 1,000 Anti-Christian Attacks In Indian State, report

"It is regrettable to report on physical attacks on Christian workers and believers, vandalism of church property, desecration of statues of Jesus, and arrests of priests on frivolous complains of conversions in Karnataka," said  Richard Howell,  the general-secretary of the Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI). Most recently, he said, on March 17 some 150 people allegedly led by right-wing Hindu extremist groups stormed the funeral of a 50-year-old Christian man at St. Thomas Church "The mob pulled the coffin apart and desecrated the cross the relatives of the deceased were carrying. They threw the body in a tractor and dumped it outside, saying his burial would have contaminated the Indian soil and his body should be buried in Rome or America."

U.S.-based International Christian Concern (ICC) said the January 17 violence in the city of Udaipur in Rajastha beganwhen members of the radical Hindu group Rashtriya Swayamsavak Sangh (RSS) raided the Faith Calvary Church prayer meetingarmed with machetes, axes and sticks "and proceeded to beat Pastor Surajth Bhagari and church members of the church." FCC founder and director T.M. Omkar was quoted as saying that Christians suffered broken legs, arms and injuries to their heads. The victims were reportedly taken to a nearby government hospital where they "were partially" treated. Administrators of the hospital allegedly refused to issue them a medical certificate. "We felt that the hospital administration waspressured by some group who are keen to create trouble for the Christians. We are taking the matter to the court," Omkar reportedlysaid. Police briefly detained six "Hindu extremists" on charges that included "rioting, being armed with deadly weapons, unlawful assembly in prosecution of [a] common object, house trespass and punishment for voluntarily causing hurt," ICCsaid. RELEASED ON BAIL However the suspects were released on bail the same day, the group added. In a statement, police reportedly said however they would "protect the Christians from further attacks" but ICC questions the officers intentions. ICC said Christians already filed a police complaint immediately after the violence but that officers only wrote a report onthe crime the next day after initially refusing to provide a so-called First Information Report.
