I’ve been on the west side of Michigan for a little R & R for the past week While on vacation, we took a drive up US 31, between Scottsville and Crystal Lake through beautiful rolling hills, picturesque farms and blue lakes.
While driving through the countryside, I noticed giant billboards and hundreds of yard signs for and against the Gail Windpower project.
The Duke energy Gail Windpower project is a wind farm in development that will consist of 108 wind turbines each 538 feet tall. The wind farm will cover 12,000 acres (18.75 square miles) of scenic lake Michigan shoreline. Supporters of the project claim, optimistically, that the wind farm will provide power for 60,000 homes. (When the wind is blowing).
According to Duke Energy:

Duke Energy is currently developing a new commercial wind power project in Benzie and Manistee counties, Michigan. The Gail Windpower Project will consist of wind turbines capable of generating 200 megawatts of clean, renewable electricity – enough to power up to approximately 60,000 homes. The project will encompass approximately 12,000 acres of land.
Duke Energy is working closely with landowners, government officials and other stakeholder groups to make the Gail Windpower Project a reality. As is our standard practice, we are also in contact with all appropriate state, county and local agencies to thoroughly evaluate the potential impacts of construction and windpower operations.
Landowner benefits include steady income from land-lease agreements, wind turbine fees and revenue sharing. In addition, landowners can still use their property for other purposes, including farming, ranching and recreation.
Community benefits include a new source of tax revenue that the community can count on year after year, a large number of construction jobs (and a smaller number of operations jobs), and emissions-free electricity generated locally. Communities with wind energy projects also see an increase in direct and indirect economic activity, particularly during the construction phase, when hotels, restaurants, groceries, pharmacies, parts suppliers, service providers and various other vendors benefit from additional business.

The Gail Windprower project will consume 19.75 square miles of land to provide electricity for 60,000 homes. Compare the Gail Windpower project to a natural gas power plant, such as the Zeeland ‘peaker’ station that occupies a total of 30 acres. Within that 30 acres, the station generates enough electricity to power over 800,000 homes on demand. Rain or shine. Wind or no wind.

FREE SPEECH SILENCED IN DEARBORN, MICHIGAN

Dear Patriots,
Today, The United West had a team of activists on the ground in Dearborn, Michigan assisting Michigan activists in maintaining their First Amendment right. They witnessed the City of Dearborn, Michigan standing firmly with Shairah Law and not with the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.
Pastor Jones, who brought the issue to the forefront, is secondary to the issue of the United States Constitution losing ground to Shariah compliance.
The Government of Dearborn, Michigan is FEARFUL of Muslims and functions, de facto, as a Shariah compliant city.
Citizens of Dearborn must view this GOOD FRIDAY as a “day of awakening” and start the hard work to save their formally beautiful and proud city.
The United West is on the ground in Michigan assisting the activists who call Michigan their home and will retain a presence there to save the state from pervasive and destructive Shariah compliant doctrine.
We were there today to support the patriots of Dearborn and will remain there as the ONLY academic, resistance and confrontational activists in the nation.

Your iPhone has been tracking your whereabouts with out your knowledge.

Security researchers have discovered that Apple’s iPhone keeps track of where you go – and saves every detail of it to a secret file on the device which is then copied to the owner’s computer when the two are synchronised.
The file contains the latitude and longitude of the phone’s recorded coordinates along with a timestamp, meaning that anyone who stole the phone or the computer could discover details about the owner’s movements using a simple program.
For some phones, there could be almost a year’s worth of data stored, as the recording of data seems to have started with Apple’s iOS 4 update to the phone’s operating system, released in June 2010.
“Apple has made it possible for almost anybody – a jealous spouse, a private detective – with access to your phone or computer to get detailed information about where you’ve been,” said Pete Warden, one of the researchers.

And guess who, besides a jealous spouse, can use this information? How about The Michigan State Police.
The Michigan State Police have a high-tech mobile forensics device that can be used to extract information from cell phones belonging to motorists stopped for minor traffic violations. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Michigan last Wednesday demanded that state officials stop stonewalling freedom of information requests for information on the program.
ACLU learned that the police had acquired the cell phone scanning devices and in August 2008 filed an official request for records on the program, including logs of how the devices were used. The state police responded by saying they would provide the information only in return for a payment of $544,680. The ACLU found the charge outrageous.

clipped from www.huffingtonpost.com A state of emergency has been declared in southwest Michigan's Kalamazoo County as more than 800,000 gallons of oil released into a creek began making its way downstream in the Kalamazoo River, the Kalamazoo Gazette reports. The trouble began Monday at 9:45 a.m., when an oil pipeline owned by Enbridge Liquids Pipelines sprung a leak in Marshall Township. Enbridge Energy is a subsidiary of Calgary, Canada based Enbridge Inc., the Detroit Free Press reports. According to the company, it is the largest transporter of oil from western Canada. The cause of the leak is under investigation, and the pipeline has been shut down--but not before it did some serious damage. U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer called the spill the "largest oil spill in the history of the Midwest." Officials are suggesting all water activities in the Kalamazoo River be put on hold until the situation is resolved--and some are fearing contamination of local water supplies:

It has been proven to be a fraud and hoax time and again. Repeating the claims over and over will not make it true. Another big myth is the ‘green energy’ will create ‘green jobs.’ The reality is that ‘green energy’ creates heavily subsidized jobs: the percentage of ethanol blended into the U.S. gasoline supply would create 136,000 jobs. But an analysis by the Environmental Working Group found that no more than 27,000 jobs would be created, and each one could cost taxpayers as much as $446,000 per year

David Brian Stone, 45, his wife, Tina Stone, 44, and David Stone's two adult sons allegedly conspired with five other members of the fringe Christian militia group called the Hutaree to kill a Michigan law enforcement officer and then ambush the officer's colleagues who would have gathered for the funeral, according to court documents. All were indicted by a federal grand jury of seditious conspiracy, attempted use of weapons of mass destruction, teaching the use of explosive materials and possessing a firearm during a crime of violence. They appeared in court this morning but no pleas were made.

On Sunday, the FBI confirmed that federal law enforcement agents were conducting activities in Washtenaw and Lenawee counties over the weekend in connection to Hutaree, a Christian militia group. FBI Special Agent Sandra Berchtold told The Detroit News the federal warrants in the case are under court seal and declined further comment. Lackomar said he was told there were five arrests Saturday and another five early Sunday. The FBI declined to comment. One of the Hutaree members called a Michigan militia leader for assistance Saturday after federal agents had already began their raid, Lackomar said, but the militia member -- who is of Islamic decent and had heard about the threats -- declined to offer help.

The Mayor Of Detroit’s Radical Plan To Bulldoze One Quarter Of The City

clipped from theeconomiccollapseblog.com How do you save a city that is dramatically declining like Detroit?  Well, for the mayor of Detroit the answer is simple - you bulldoze one-fourth of the city.  Faced with a 300 million dollar budget deficit and a rapidly dwindling tax base, Detroit finds itself having to make some really hard choices. Detroit is estimated to be somewhere around 45 to 50 percent, and poverty and desperation have become entrenched everywhere.  In many areas of the city, only one or two houses remain occupied an an entire city block.  Well, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing believes that the answer is to downsize on a massive scale.  Bing believes that Detroit simply cannot continue to pay for police patrols, fire protection and other essential services for areas that resemble ghost towns. So his plan is to bulldoze approximately 10,000 houses and empty buildings over the next 3 years and direct new investment into stronger neighborhoods. So which areas would be bulldozed and which areas would be left standing?

Nearly 200K without power after Northeast storm

clipped from news.yahoo.com PORTLAND, Maine – Nearly 200,000 homes and businesses were still without power Monday as restoration efforts continued days after a slow-moving storm battered the Northeast with heavy snow, rain and high winds. More than 83,000 utility customers still lacked electricity early Monday in New Hampshire, the hardest-hit state. New York had about 87,000 outages, and Maine had about 16,000. At the peak of the storm, more than a million utility customers throughout the region had lost power. Hundreds of utility crews from as far away as Michigan and Maryland continued removing trees that knocked down power lines and replacing utility poles that snapped during last week's storm. Dozens of shelters provided warmth and food at fire departments, schools and other places. Another storm, this one from the east, was expected to bring more snow and rain into parts of New England on Sunday night into Monday.
