NEW YORK - Pakistani-born U.S. citizen Faisal Shahzad has admitted trying to set off a car bomb in busy Times Square and will face terrorism and mass destruction charges, Attorney General Eric Holder said Tuesday.

"Based on what we know so far, it is clear that this was a terrorist plot aimed at murdering Americans in one of the busiest places in our country," Holder said.

Authorities tracked down Shahzad using the vehicle identification number on the Nissan Pathfinder that failed to detonate. They linked that number to a recent sale in Connecticut, Holder said.

Once they identified Shahzad, authorities placed him on a federal air travel no-fly list. He was arrested late Monday night aboard a plane bound for the United Arab Emirates.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano declined to say how Shahzad was able to board the flight if he was on the No Fly list.

State of Virginia to Investigate Global Warming Scientist Mann

clipped from www.foxnews.com

A legal battle is heating up faster than the planet for embattled climatologist Michael Mann.

First word emerged that the inspector general for the National Science Foundation would look into the Penn State panel reviewing the climate scientist, who is currently director of the school's Earth System Science Center. Now the attorney general for his old employer the University of Virginia is planning an investigation, too.

The paper, tipped off by anonymous sources, has posted a PDF of Cuccinelli's formal request, a legal document called a civil investigative demand. In that letter, he demands production of information and documentary material relating to three papers Mann authored while at UVA, using a total of $484,875 of state grant money.

“Since it’s public money, there’s enough controversy to look in to the possible manipulation of data,”

13 attorneys general sue over health care

Health care legislation (AP)

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Attorneys general from 13 states sued the federal government Tuesday, claiming the landmark health care overhaul is unconstitutional just seven minutes after President Barack Obama signed it into law.

The lawsuit was filed in Pensacola after the Democratic president signed the 10-year, $938 billion bill the House passed Sunday night.

"The Constitution nowhere authorizes the United States to mandate, either directly or under threat of penalty, that all citizens and legal residents have qualifying health care coverage," the lawsuit says.

Legal experts say it has little chance of succeeding because, under the Constitution, federal laws trump state laws.

Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum is taking the lead and is joined by attorneys general from South Carolina, Nebraska, Texas, Michigan, Utah, Pennsylvania, Alabama, South Dakota, Idaho, Washington, Colorado and Louisiana. All are Republicans except James "Buddy" Caldwell of Louisiana, a Democrat.

Michigan Attorney General Is Joining The Fight To Stop ObamaCare

Attorney General Mike Cox on Monday filed a constitutional challenge to federal health care reforms passed by Congress amid a fury of backlash from Michigan opponents that included a petition drive by Tea Party leaders to put the issue on the November ballot.

Michigan is among several states that have joined Florida in challenging whether Congress has the authority to compel citizens to buy health insurance or face fines.

The move follows passage of landmark legislation late Sunday that aims to overhaul the nation's health care system by expanding it to an estimated 32 million uninsured Americans.

"Congress' attempt to force Michigan families to buy health insurance -- or else -- raises serious constitutional concerns," Cox said in a press release. "We will fight to defend the individual rights and freedoms of Michigan citizens against this radical overreach by the federal government."

Opponents want to allow citizens to opt out.

“A team of Christian activists and pastors today filed a civil rights lawsuit against Attorney General Eric Holder over the ‘hate crimes’ law that President Obama…signed into law late in 2009 – alleging it violates their civil rights.
