Indiana lawmakers pass immigration curbs like Arizona - Yahoo! News

INDIANAPOLIS (Reuters) – The Indiana senate passed a sweeping immigration bill that echoes Arizona's tougher measures on illegal immigrants and despite opposition from some of the largest employers and business groups in the state.
The measure, passed on Tuesday night by a vote of 31-18, would allow state and local police to ask a person stopped for infractions like traffic violations for proof of legal residency if the officer has a "reasonable suspicion" they may be in the country illegally.
Another provision would call for, with some exceptions, the use of English only in public meetings, on Web sites and in documents.
The bill still needs to be adopted by state's House of Representatives, where opponents say they will now turn.
The vote "was a key step in the legislative process," the bill's author Sen. Mike Delph said in a statement, adding that the bill will "send a clear message that Indiana will no longer be a sanctuary for people who are in our state and country illegally because of our federal government's failure to act on illegal immigration."

This Was No Mere Election, It Was A Restraining Order | Personal Liberty Digest

This Was No Mere Election, It Was A Restraining Order

November 5, 2010 by Chip Wood
This Was No Mere Election, It Was A Restraining Order
Because of deadline pressures, I’m writing this Wednesday morning. We still don’t know all the election results. But what we do know is that an amazing change has taken place in the political landscape of America.
Let me note the biggest of them all: In the world’s most important legislative body, the U.S. House of Representatives, Republicans gained more than 60 seats. Come January, they will have a very comfortable majority. This is incredibly significant for several reasons.
First, it means that nasty Nancy Pelosi will no longer be Speaker of the House of Representatives. Of all the results of yesterday’s elections that brought a huge smile to my face. That is the best news of all.
Pardon me for wallowing in a joyous bit of schadenfreude for a few moments, but I can’t tell you how happy this makes me. (In case you’re not familiar with that marvelous German word, schadenfreude means “taking delight in someone else’s misfortune.” This is normally not a very admirable emotion, but in this case, it is 1,000 percent justified.)

4 dozen names would launch Obamacare repeal

Eight more members of the U.S. House have signed on to a plan that calls for a re-vote on Obamacare, enabling members to repeal the massive nationalization program estimated to cost Americans a trillion dollars or more.
The signature total now stands at 170, just four dozen shy of the 218 needed to advance the discharge petition sponsored by U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa
The newest names are Reps. Steven C. LaTourette of Ohio, Dean Heller of Nevada, Peter T. King of New York, Mario Diaz-Balart of Florida, Lincoln Diaz-Balart of Florida, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida, Tim Murphy of Pennsylvania and Charles W. Dent of Pennsylvania.
Share your thoughts about the Obamacare nationalization of health-care decision-making.
Staffers with Kings's office said no more new names will be added while Congress is in recess now, but the campaign will ramp up again as soon as the members reassemble in September.

King also has posted a list online divided by state delegations.
The effort in the House is quickly gaining momentum even though it has been reported but little in the media. Under House rules, King's discharge petition needs 218 signatures to advance. But with that number – a majority in the 435-member body – once it moves it virtually is assured of passing, even though House Speaker Nancy Pelosi vigorously opposes it.
Sign the petition opposing Obamacare.
All of the GOP representatives and 34 Democrats opposed Obamacare when it was passed on a narrow 219-212 vote earlier this year. King said 212 representatives, at least, should be in favor of overturning it, since they previously opposed it.
Then it will be up to the four Democrat votes that would be needed to turn from endorsement to rejection for it to advance.
He also said there are a number of Democrats who supported the nationalization plan who now are running for re-election in districts where residents oppose it.

Migrants sell up, flee Arizona ahead of crackdown

Migrants sell up, flee Arizona ahead of crackdown

  • read more on news.yahoo.com
As news reports break out on Arizona's Immigration Law due to take effect this Thursday. It seems the News Channels keep on trying to make it all out to be a bad thing. I'm sure most of us know better though.

What they don't seem to realize in most of these articles is that it's already working and it hasn't even taken effect yet.
See as more people leave. More people are able to find work. More people can find affordable housing, and less ID theft is going on.  These are just some of the things I don't see the News talking about. Yet it's in all these articles.
  • PHOENIX, July 25 (Reuters) - Nicaraguan mother Lorena Aguilar hawks a television set and a few clothes on the baking sidewalk outside her west Phoenix apartment block.
A few paces up the street, her undocumented Mexican neighbor Wendi Villasenor touts a kitchen table, some chairs and a few dishes as her family scrambles to get out of Arizona ahead of a looming crackdown on illegal immigrants.
"Everyone is selling up the little they have and leaving," said Villasenor, 31, who is headed for Pennsylvania. "We have no alternative. They have us cornered."

Arizona straddles the principal highway for human and drug smugglers heading into the United States from Mexico.
The state's Republican governor, Jan Brewer, signed the law in April in a bid to curb violence and cut crime stemming from illegal immigration.
Polls show the measure is backed by a solid majority of Americans and by 65 percent of Arizona voters in this election year for some state governors, all of the U.S. House of Representatives and about a third of the 100-seat Senate.
Opponents say the law is unconstitution

    Friends,
It is obvious that these people will self deport when there are no jobs and the law is enforced. This article is a good example but we must realize that some will seek refuge in sanctuary cities and states. The law must be applied to all states and since it is a copy of the federal law then this administration must enforce the law.

Ok, class... How many ways can you say 'illegal'?

  • read more on www.gopusa.com
Arizona's new law which aims to crack down on illegal aliens is set to take effect in just a few days. Ahead of the July 29 implementation date, lawsuits are flying, and the media are trying everything they can to draw attention to this "controversial" law. The problem is that it's not controversial. It's straightforward, inline with federal law, and is supported by vast majority of Arizona residents. That, of course, doesn't stop liberals from trying to make controversy where controversy doesn't exist.
It's amazing what so-called journalists will do to either stir things up in their favor or tone things down in order to draw sympathy for their cause. Take this Reuters story as an example: Migrants sell up, flee Arizona ahead of crackdown. In it, we can see that it becomes a challenge for the writer to see how many different ways he can describe a person in this country illegally without actually using the word "illegal."
  • read more on www.gopusa.com
The author does start off by using the phrase "illegal immigrant" at first, but even that term is misleading. If people have no intention of learning the American culture and adopting the American way of life, are they really "immigrants"?

Arizona immigration law opens farm jobs to unemployed

  • read more on www.azcentral.com
For years, both sides of the immigration issue have debated whether immigrants take jobs that Americans won't.
Now, high unemployment and a tough new Arizona immigration law will test that idea in a $9 billion industry: Arizona agriculture.
Arizona needs about 50,000 temporary workers to harvest winter produce, and only 25,000 of those workers typically come from the U.S. side of the border, according to an Arizona farm lobby group.
At least some workers from past years say they won't be returning to Arizona this season.

Tea Party Protesters Are One of the Largest Threats to our Internal Security

clipped from biggovernment.com

KERRY PICKET (Wash. Times): Do you think the people outside are generally dangerous or no?

REP. CARSON: Oh absolutely. I worked in homeland security. I’m from intelligence, and I’ll tell you, one of the largest threats to our internal security…I mean terrorism has an Islamic face, but it really comes from racial supremacist groups. (inaudible) Its the kind of thing we keep a threat assessment on record [for].

PICKET: From groups like this?

REP. CARSON: Oh absolutely.

As our readers have already learned, Rep. Andre Carson gathered Capitol Hill reporters around him and told the tale of racial slurs and menacing crowds on the verge of hurling rocks at the congressmen.  Our first few videos showed the congressmen coming out of the Cannon Office Building, walking down the steps and into Independence Avenue from various angles.
Only problem is, we can’t find any proof to back up Rep. Carson’s story.

House delivers health care victory for President Obama

Welcome to an historic day and the beginnings to way to many problems.

The 219-212 roll call Sunday by which the House passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. A "yes" vote is a vote to pass the bill.
Voting yes were 219 Democrats and 0 Republicans. Voting no were 34 Democrats and 178 Republicans. There are 4 vacancies in the 435-member House.

WASHINGTON — Congress completed action Sunday night on the major portion of President Obama's top priority, a historic restructuring of the nation's health care system that has eluded his predecessors for more than a century.
The 219-212 House vote, coming after a tumultuous day of protests and rancorous debate, paves the way for Obama to sign into law most of his 10-year, $940 billion plan within the next few days

It gave Obama a major victory and will make him, at least for now, a more powerful president who made good on his campaign promise of change.

Just because it's historic doesn't mean it's good," said Rep

TURNER: Our lawbreaking Congress

First page of Constitution of the United StatesImage via Wikipedia

As a scholar who has studied and revered the Constitution for more than four decades, watching the behavior of our Congress in recent years has been all too often a depressing experience. One wonders whether some legislators have even bothered to read the Constitution, or if the problem is they simply don't care about the oath they took to support it.
clipped from washingtontimes.com
Sadly, the latest parliamentary shenanigans in the House, to pretend that the Senate health care bill has already been signed into law so that the (non)law can be "amended" immediately to secure enough House votes for passage, is but par for the course.
Article I, Section 7 of the Constitution sets forth detailed requirements for the making or amending of a law, specifying that "Every order, resolution, or vote to which the concurrence of the Senate and House of Representatives may be necessary" shall be presented to and approved by the president (or enacted over his veto
At some point, if we are to have any chance of preserving our magnificent Constitution, the American people are going to have to start saying "no" and holding legislators accountable at the polls for violating their oaths of office

Turkey says U.S. genocide vote endangers Caucasus peace

clipped from www.reuters.com

Turkey and its fellow Muslim ally, Azerbaijan, saw the U.S. vote undermining efforts to stabilize the South Caucasus, a volatile region with pipelines taking oil and gas to the West.

"This decision will not bring peace to the Caucasus," Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told a news conference hours after Turkey recalled its ambassador from Washington.

Turkish leaders reacted with fury after the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee narrowly passed a non-binding resolution that tarred their grandfathers with the same crime as Nazi Germany.

President Barack Obama had made a last ditch attempt to get the House panel to drop a resolution that would anger a valuable NATO ally, whose support was important for U.S. interests in Iran, Afghanistan and the Middle East.

Some European leaders have discouraged Turkey's bid for EU membership.

Late last month Azerbaijan warned that a "great war" in the South Caucasus was inevitable if Armenian forces did not withdraw.

Tracking chip in driver's license

EAN-13 bar code of ISBN-13 in compliance with ...Image via Wikipedia

clipped from www.kfor.com

OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma lawmaker is calling a piece of legislation under consideration in the U.S. Congress a "big brother, big government bill." The Pass I.D. Act calls for standardizing driver's licenses across the country, but State Representative Paul Wesselhoft says the bill is an invasion of privacy.

"I think it's big brother at its worst. I know the motive behind it is to curb illegal immigration and other security issues but I think it's a violation of our 4th Amendment," says Rep. Wesselhoft (R-Moore).

In a written statement, the senator's office says:
"Neither REAL ID nor PASS ID call for computer chips of any sort. As recommended by the 9/11 commission, the existing REAL ID regulations require IDs to contain machine readable barcodes much like you would find at the supermarket. Police officers can scan the barcodes to easily verify the information printed on the front of the ID and detect fake IDs. Many states have been using the barcodes for years."
