U.S. National Security Strategy Promotes American Acceptionalism
SECURITY, HOMELAND SECURITY & TERRORISM

If President Barack Obama's National Security Strategy (the "NSS") is any indication, American exceptionalism is an outdated theory. Instead, America must accept a new international order where, instead of free and hard-working Americans deciding how to use their excess wealth for their benefit, the benefit of their fellow Americans, and the benefit of other nations, Americans will work hard to support failing social welfare programs domestically and abroad and to finance the "clean" growth of developing countries so that wealth imbalances among nations can be eliminated. Under the NSS, America's guiding principles are transformed from life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to work, redistribution, and the pursuit of balance.
On May 27, 2010, the Obama Administration released the NSS, which is published every four years during the second year of each presidential administration. In the introduction of the NSS, President Obama explains that Americans live in a moment of transition attributable to the challenges of globalization. He refers to America's need to "strengthen international standards and institutions," to seek an "international order," and to "strengthen international norms." In his view, this new international order can resolve the challenges of our times, including, but not limited to, "combating a changing climate and sustaining global growth; helping countries feed themselves and care for their sick; resolving and preventing conflict, while also healing its wounds." This utopian ambition is the result of a Babel Impulse that seems capable of transforming what should be a serious examination of a few essential elements of a national security agenda into a wide-ranging program for the pursuit of liberal internationalism.

Since the end of World War II, the U.S. has led the effort to build an international architecture of laws and institutions that are designed to promote the security of nation-states. Yet, in the opinion of the Obama Administration, this international architecture "is buckling under the weight of new threats, making us less able to seize new opportunities." In the opinion of the Obama Administration, human security, not national security, should be the focal point of the new international order, with special emphasis on preventing or providing relief from the effects of climate change, pandemic and infectious disease, transnational crime, and humanitarian crises. Special mention is also made of the need for "safeguarding the global commons," which requires America to "work in concert with allies and partners to optimize the use of shared sea, air, and space domains."

Because the Obama Administration is placing all its bets on U.N. management of the new international order, the NSS explains that "we are working with U.N. personnel and member states to strengthen the U.N.'s leadership and operational capacity in peacekeeping, humanitarian relief, post-disaster recovery, development assistance, and the promotion of human rights." Unfortunately, the NSS does not indicate by what authority the Obama Administration is vesting so much responsibility in the U.N., an organization with a dismal record of transparency and accountability. But not to worry, the NSS assures us that "we support reforms that promote effective and efficient leadership and management of the U.N.'s international civil service

Speaking of reforms, because, absent a renewed economy, the U.S. cannot play a leadership role in the new international order, the NSS views U.S. education, health care, and energy reforms as foundational to America's participation in the new international order.

Napolitano: Internet Monitoring Needed to Fight Homegrown Terrorism

WASHINGTON -- Fighting homegrown terrorism by monitoring Internet communications is a civil liberties trade-off the U.S. government must make to beef up national security, the nation's homeland security chief said Friday.
As terrorists increasingly recruit U.S. citizens, the government needs to constantly balance Americans' civil rights and privacy with the need to keep people safe, said Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

Napolitano said it is wrong to believe that if security is embraced, liberty is sacrificed.
She added, "We can significantly advance security without having a deleterious impact on individual rights in most instances. At the same time, there are situations where trade-offs are inevitable."
As an example, she noted the struggle to use full-body scanners at airports caused worries that they would invade people's privacy.

The Pentagon's spy unit has quietly begun to rebuild a database for tracking potential terrorist threats that was shut down after it emerged that it had been collecting information on American anti-war activists.
The Defense Intelligence Agency filed notice this week that it plans to create a new section called Foreign Intelligence and Counterintelligence Operation Records, whose purpose will be to "document intelligence, counterintelligence, counterterrorism and counternarcotic operations relating to the protection of national security."
But while the unit's name refers to "foreign intelligence," civil liberties advocates and the Pentagon's own description of the program suggest that Americans will likely be included in the new database.

Middle Class--Not the Rich or the Poor--Pay Majority of Federal Taxes, Says CBO Data

(CNSNews.com) - Middle-class Americans--not the rich or the poor--pay the majority of annual tax revenues taken in by the federal government, according to data released in a new Congressional Budget Office study. Households earning less than $34,300 per year, meanwhile, actually pay a negative average federal income tax rate.
Middle-class households that earned between $34,300 and $141,900 paid 50.5 percent of all federal tax revenues in 2007 (the most recent year analyzed), according to the CBO study released Thursday, and households that earned between $34,300 and $352,900 paid 66.7 percent of all federal taxes.
Households in the top 1 percent for annual income (those earning more than $352,900) paid a healthy 28.1 percent of all federal taxes, but households in the lower income brackets paid relatively little. Those earning less than $34,300 paid only 5.2 percent of all federal taxes, and those earning less than $20,500 carried almost none of the federal tax burden (just 0.8 percent of the total) in 2007.

Australia reveals possibility of federal employee biometric program

As The World tends to fall asleep more and more each day on this very subject. I see the most of the world just loves to let other control their lives and take away every inch of freedom they have left.
I find biometric Id. Or in other words RFID becoming more and more dangerous than anything else.
This not only takes all your information and places it into a central computer system.
But, it is opening the doors for more hackers to get all your information.
Anyone that knows just a little bit about computers. Will see the consequence's here.

Being that everything here will be so easily hacked into. It will open up yet more doors for the central Verichip implants. This way your card cannot be stolen.
Though some may enjoy what benefits this new systems may brings. The warning flags should be raised in everyone's minds here.
Being the news don't talk much on this. People run around in their daily lives thinking nothing about it.

May questions is. Is everyone on this planet ready to be tracked everywhere and everything that they do in life? Is so what are they going to do when they turn off your chip? No buying or Selling allowed.

A senior national security official for Australia’s Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C) has revealed the possibility of expanding Centrelink’s internal smart card program to include all federal employees as well as adding biometrics to the program, according to an MIS Australia article.

Some of the biometric modes being considered for inclusion in the potential program include facial recognition, fingerprints and iris recognition.

One of the driving forces behind the change is the potential to save money on federal employees moving between agencies currently needing to be reissued the new identity documentation that is unique to each department.

While that may not seem too common, PM&C Secretary Terry Moran recently announced at the Biometrics Institute’s 11th Australian conference a national push for more movement of employees between departments to better equip the government to respond to the needs of the citizens.

McCain 'Disturbed' by Obama's View of American Power

Sen. John McCain tells Newsmax that he was “very disturbed” by President Barack Obama’s statement that America remains a dominant military superpower “whether we like it or not.”

At the close of the two-day nuclear weapons summit in Washington, D.C., on April 13, Obama said that the United States must do its best to resolve conflicts around the world before they grow too serious.

"It is a vital national security interest of the United States to reduce these conflicts because whether we like it or not, we remain a dominant military superpower, and when conflicts break out, one way or another we get pulled into them."

McCain tells Newsmax.TV: “I was very disturbed by the president’s statement that the United States remains the world’s premier superpower, military power, ‘whether we like it or not.’

Asked if he has any idea why the president appears apologetic about America’s role in the world, the Arizona Republican says simply: “No, I don’t.”

I'm going to ask a rhetorical question..."haven't we heard enough crap, lies, distortions, anti-American arrogance and other to-numerous-to-mention insults, to the America way of life"? I know your answer, so let's move on.

The issue that has my attention at the present is the deliberate, in your face, false depiction of the recent Arizona legislation making illegal aliens, illegal in Arizona...hello...some think bad of Arizona for protecting their citizens.

How can Barack Obama and the rest of his snotty, arrogant Administration's statements on the Arizona issue be ignored when they condemn a State for taking care of their own?

Where is the US Government who has the responsibility and obligation under the US Constitution for national security? Well they are AWOL and Arizona has said so in no uncertain terms...Arizona says "we'll take care of own"...but just stay out of our way. But what does Washington do? They find fault to cover their own incompetence.

This article claims to try to take Religion out of all this and the wording. Yet these countries do not have politics nor run their countries without the very religion they serve. Can the American Gov and the leaders here actually be this stupid? According to this they sure can.

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama's advisers plan to remove terms such as "Islamic radicalism" from a document outlining national security strategy and will use the new version to emphasize that the U.S. does not view Muslim nations through the lens of terrorism, counterterrorism officials say.

The change would be a significant shift in the National Security Strategy, a document that previously outlined the Bush Doctrine of preventive war. It currently states, "The struggle against militant Islamic radicalism is the great ideological conflict of the early years of the 21st century."

But the Bush administration struggled with its rhetoric. Muslims criticized Bush for describing the war on terrorism as a "crusade" and labeling the invasion of Afghanistan "Operation Infinite Justice" - words that were seen as religious. He regularly identified America's enemy as "Islamic extremists" and "radical jihadists."

The Department of Homeland Security's Janet Napolitano says the department may eventually extend its "Einstein" technology, designed to detect and prevent electronic attacks, to networks operated by the private sector. The technology was created for federal networks.

This raises a host of questions about privacy, access, government monitoring of private networks, loss of control, and constitutional rights to privacy guaranteed in the Bill of Rights under the Fourth Amendment.

Einstein grew out of a still-classified executive order, called National Security Presidential Directive 54, that President Bush signed in 2008.

As we reported in Surfin' Safari last week, the Federal Communications Commission has begun tweaking its surveys to measure Internet use by census tract – rather than county – and divide broadband into different "speed tiers."

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, who said that Einstein 3 could only be discussed in a classified setting, speaks at the RSA conference on Wednesday.

SAN FRANCISCO--Homeland Security and the National Security Agency may be taking a closer look at Internet communications in the future.

Not much is known about how Einstein works, and the House Intelligence Committee once charged that descriptions were overly "vague" because of "excessive classification." The White House did confirm this week that the latest version, called Einstein 3, involves attempting to thwart in-progress cyberattacks by sharing information with the National Security Agency.

If Einstein 3 does perform as well as Homeland Security hopes, it could help less-prepared companies fend off cyberattacks, including worms sent through e-mail, phishing attempts, and even denial of service attacks.

The Obama administration lifted the veil Tuesday on a highly-secretive set of policies to defend the U.S. from cyber attacks.

It was an open secret that the National Security Agency was bolstering a Homeland Security program to detect and respond to cyber attacks on government systems, but a summary of that program declassified Tuesday provides more details of NSA’s role in a Homeland program known as Einstein.

The current version of the program is widely seen as providing meager protection against attack, but a new version being built will be more robust–largely because it’s rooted in NSA technology. The program is designed to look for indicators of cyber attacks by digging into all Internet communications, including the contents of emails, according to the declassified summary.
