When the Air Force launched its secret, robotic space plane this spring, military officials confessed that they weren't exactly sure when it was coming back. More than seven months later, the X-37B landed at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, where it was met with Air Force personnel in SCAPE suits (self-contained atmospheric protective ensemble). They gave the robo-orbiter an initial once-over — and made sure the area was safe for humans, too.
Here are the pictures (and infrared video) of the landing, courtesy of U.S. Air Force Space Command.
What the 29-foot-long craft did during all those months in orbit is still a matter of intense speculation. Conspiratorially minded types conjectured that it might be a prototype for an orbiting bomber. Others warned of "a johnny-on-the-spot weapons platform to take out the satellite assets of an enemy."
Prominent members of the Russian military establishment screamed that Moscow needed to build up its own space arsenal, ASAP. The British press, meanwhile, made dark insinuations about "the testing of new laser weapon systems" in space.
Better-informed observers believe the X-37B could be used by the Pentagon as a cheap replacement for the all-but-defunct Space Shuttle — a way to get spy sensors into orbit in a hurry.
And the U.S. military's use of space planes is only getting started. As David Axe noted last week, the Air Force has commissioned a second X-37, to enter service next spring. The first X-37 could find itself back in orbit in short order, as well. Which means we could see more dudes in crazy-looking suits meeting up with robotic spacecraft soon.

Ahmadinejad: US and Israel plot wars within three months

TEHRAN. With the President of Iran, Mahmoud Ah...Image via Wikipedia
Every time I hear this guy talk, I seem to realize all he wants is a war. Just as the Islamic Koran tells them to create. The Bloodiest War mankind has ever seen. Otherwise known as the Holy War, Jihad and what most of us know as Armageddon.

Ahmadinejad: US and Israel plot wars within three months

debkafile's Iranian sources quote President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as saying: "We have precise information that the Americans have devised a plot, according to which they seek to launch a psychological war on Iran. They plan to attack at least two countries in the region within the next three months," he said, without specifying which countries were the subjects of the alleged conspiracy, only hinting that America's senior military ally in the region, Israel, was directly involved.
Ahmadinejad spoke Monday night, July 26, in an interview restricted to the controlled Iranian media which make a point of stressing the late hour.
The Iranian president ended the interview with a warning to US President Barack Obama not to follow in the footsteps of George W. Bush by sending US troops to fight new Middle East wars.
He also had a piece of advice for Moscow: Not to play into Washington's hands and thereby hurt Russian interests.

Report: No missile system to Iran

Persian empire 490bc Bactria elImage via Wikipedia
Finally it looks like someone is making a very smart move here. Though somehow I really don't think it's going to change Iran's motives to start the most bloodiest war in history and the Koran commands them to do.
This does however leave out one more weapon from their arsenals when they do begin to attack.
For those that really don't think Iran is a threat to anyone. Be sure to check out your history books again. All about the Babylonian and Persian Empires.
The motive haven't changed even in 2010.

The Russian S-300 missile system
Israel reacted positively on Tuesday to Moscow’s announcement that it
will not
deliver S-300 surface-to-air missile defense systems to Iran.
Russia’s
Interfax news agency quoted a top military official as saying the United
Nation’s latest Iran sanctions, which Moscow had backed, ruled out the
delivery
of missile systems.
Russian military official Alexander
Fomin on Tuesday did not refer to the S-300s by name, but pledged Moscow
would
desist from supplying “large missile systems,”

One of the most advanced multi-target anti-aircraftmissile systems
in the world, the S-300 has a reported ability to track up to 100
targets
simultaneously while engaging up to 12 at the same time.

Other
officials are less concerned by the system and claim that if and when
the S-300
is delivered to Iran, Israel will be able to develop an electronic
warfare
system to neutralize it.

US Deploys Missiles to Poland to Train NATO Ally

clipped from abcnews.go.com

WARSAW, Poland

Dozens of American soldiers and a battery of Patriot missiles have arrived in Poland, where they will spend the next two years teaching the Polish military to operate the advanced guided missile system at a base just a few miles (kilometers) from the Russian border.

The mission amounts to the most significant deployment ever of U.S. forces to Poland, which once was behind the Iron Curtain but is now an enthusiastic member of NATO.

Though Russia had expressed its strong opposition to having a U.S. military installation close to its border, there was no initial reaction from Moscow to the arrival of the missiles — perhaps an indication that it wants to play down the matter after failing to stop the deployment.

The U.S military has previously carried out training exercises in Poland, and has also trained the Polish air force to operate F-16 military fighter planes, which Poland bought to modernize its military.

Russia, Turkey becoming strategic partners - Medvedev

clipped from en.rian.ru
President Dmitry Medvedev

Russia and Turkey are becoming strategic partners, President Dmitry Medvedev said shortly before his visit to Ankara, due May 11-12.

"June 3 will see 90 years since the day diplomatic relations between our countries were established, and my visit will take place shortly before that remarkable date," Medvedev said in an article for Turkish newspaper Zaman.

"First of all, we can say with conviction that Russian-Turkish ties are reaching the level of full-scale strategic partnership," the Russian leader said, adding that a declaration signed by the two presidents in Moscow in February 2009 testified to that.

He also said Russia sees Turkey as a "good and reliable neighbor with whom we are happy to jointly build plans to further strengthen cooperation for the good of our countries' peoples."

Experts analyze Moscow's connection to radical Islam

Experts analyze Moscow's connection to radical Islam, say it is all part of much bigger plan
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev visited Syria
this week and met with Hamas
politburo Khaled Mashaal. On Wednesday, he even stated that Hamas should be included in the Middle East peace process, despite Israel's
firm stand against the Islamist movement.
Is Russia taking a pro-Islamic side in one of the most explosive regions in the world?
Moscow is seeking to increase its involvement, and hold, in the region. Terror organizations? It's doesn't really matter to them.
"Russia doesn't view it as taking sides. That's too harsh. It's taking the middle. It wants to assume the role of the Middle East mediator,"
"It seeks to upgrade its status. It wants to turn into a more important power. For this purpose it must activate worldwide moves, in the Middle East as well."

Russia Calls for Halt on U.S. Adoptions After Return of Boy

clipped from www.nytimes.com

MOSCOW — The Russian government on Friday proposed suspending all adoptions of Russian children by Americans after a 7-year-old boy was put on a plane by himself this week and returned to Moscow with a note from his adoptive mother in Tennessee saying that she could no longer care for him.

The mother said in the note that the boy had severe psychological problems and that she was deceived by the adoption agency into accepting him last September.

The case of the boy, Artyom Savelyev, who was named Justin by his adoptive American mother, attracted widespread attention here, underscoring the acute sensitivity of the issue. Russians feel humiliated that their country, which they consider a world power, cannot take care of its own children and has to give them up to foreigners. Russia was the third leading source of adoptive children in the United States in 2009, with 1,586, following China, with 3,000, and Ethiopia, according to State Department figures.

Russia's Medvedev promises 'crueler' measures

Dmitry MedvedevImage via Wikipedia

clipped from www.cumberlink.com

President Dmitry Medvedev made a surprise visit Thursday to the violence-wracked southern province of Dagestan, telling police and security forces to use tougher, "more cruel" measures to fight the "scum" responsible for terrorist attacks.

Russia's security chief said some terror suspects had been detained.
Twin suicide bombings in Moscow _ which Islamic militants from the North Caucasus claim to have carried out _ have refocused attention on the violence that for years has been confined to Russia's predominantly Muslim regions. The rush-hour attacks Monday on the Moscow subway killed 39 people and left nearly 90 hospitalized.
"The measures to fight terrorism should be expanded, they should be more effective, more harsh, more cruel, if you please," he told federal and local officials in a televised meeting.
"We have torn off the heads of the most odious bandits, but clearly this was not enough. In any case, we will find them all and punish them," Medvedev said.

 – Russia mourns after suicide attacks

MOSCOW – A Chechen militant leader has claimed responsibility for twin suicide bombings on Moscow's subway that killed 39 and wounded scores of others.

Doku Umarov, who leads Islamic militants in Chechnya and nearby regions of Russia's North Caucasus, says in a statement posted on a pro-rebel Web site that the attacks were an act of revenge for the killing of civilians by Russian security forces.

Umarov's statement posted Wednesday said the attacks on Russian cities will continue.

Russian authorities have said that the bombings, the first terror attacks in Moscow in six years, were carried out by militants from North Caucasus.

MAKHACHKALA, Russia (AP) — Two suicide bombers targeted authorities in southern Russia on Wednesday, killing 12 people, including nine police officers. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said the blasts may have been organized by the same militants who attacked the Moscow subway.

Subway Blasts Kill Dozens in Moscow

clipped from www.nytimes.com

MOSCOW — Suicide bombers set off huge explosions during Monday morning’s rush hour in two subway stations in central Moscow, officials said, killing at least 35 people and raising fears that the Muslim insurgency in southern Russia was once again being brought to the country’s heart.

“The terrorist acts were carried out by two female terrorist bombers,” said Moscow’s mayor, Yuri M. Luzhkov. “They occurred at a time when there would be the maximum number of victims.”

Since the fall of the Soviet Union, Russia has sought to suppress a Muslim insurgency in the country’s south, in the Caucasus region, centered on Chechnya.

Two brutal wars in Chechnya and a guerrilla insurgency gave rise to numerous bombings and acts of terror in southern Russia throughout the 1990s. Starting in 2002, Chechen separatists then began to export their bombing campaign to Moscow.

Russia hints reservations on anti-Iran sanctions

clipped from www.presstv.ir
Despite endorsing Western efforts to pressure Iran over its nuclear program, Russia says it still prefers to resolve Tehran's nuclear issue through diplomacy rather than sanctions.
Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters during a trip to Paris that there was still room for diplomacy in dealing with Tehran over its enrichment activities.
“We will concentrate all efforts on finding political and diplomatic solutions," Reuters quoted Lavrov as saying on Tuesday. "These efforts have not yet been exhausted.”
Lavrov's comments come a day after Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said in a statement that Moscow would support a new round of sanctions against Tehran as long as they did not create a humanitarian crisis.
Russia and China, both veto-wielding members of the 15-nation UN Security Council, have strongly resisted Western calls for 'punishing Iran' with further sanctions in the past.

Russia discusses delay in missile delivery to Iran

clipped from www.ynetnews.com
Addressing delay in delivery of S-300 missiles to Tehran, FM Lavrov says Moscow 'never takes any actions leading to the destabilization of this or that region.' Adds: Russia to Mideast Quartet meeting next month

Russia's foreign minister has hinted that the delay in delivering air-defense missiles to Iran
is connected with concerns about regional tensions.

Russia signed a contract in 2007 to sell S-300 missiles to Iran, a move that would substantially boost the country's defense capacities. Israel
fears the sale would tip the regional power balance.

Russian officials said none of the missiles have been delivered, but have been evasive about the reason.

The Russian foreign minister also said a high-level meeting of the Middle East Quartet will take place in Moscow next month.
