Map of USA with Tennessee highlightedImage via Wikipediahttp://www.examiner.com/ufo-in-national/pillar-of-light-reported-west-of-tennessee-s-roan-mountain
A Tennessee witness reports a "pillar of light standing vertically due west of Roan Mountain" at 4:50 a.m. on November 18, 2010, under 300 feet off of the ground where you could not tell if it was beaming up or down, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
"The thing looked as if someone had an airport spotlight shining straight up, but it ended abruptly, about 75 to 100 yards up and you could not tell if it was beaming upwards or down, just a standing pillar of light in the middle of nowhere," the witness stated. "It didn't look like Bear hunters. I cannot figure it out. It looked similar to the tail of a comet, but I've never seen a comet that large or bright."
Roan Mountain is in Carter County, TN, population 1,160. No video or images were included with the MUFON report, which was filed on November 19, 2010.

Why Are So Many Horrible Things Happening To America All Of A Sudden?

Once upon a time the United States was a land of abundance and prosperity that was truly blessed from sea to shining sea.  Tens of millions of Americans enjoyed living the American Dream in a land filled with happy, healthy and prosperous people.  But these days it seems as though there are new stories of tragedy and despair almost daily.  Whether it is the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, or the horrific flooding in Tennessee, or the tornadoes ripping through the Midwest, or the gut-wrenching economic despair in cities like Detroit, it just seems like a whole lot of horrible things are happening to America all at once.  So why is all of this hitting the U.S. right now?  Why does it seem like there is just about nowhere in the United States right now that is untouched by a major crisis?

Death toll rises as river crests, floods Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Muddy waters poured over the banks of Nashville's swollen Cumberland River on Monday, spilling into Music City's historic downtown streets while rescuers using boats and Jet Skis plucked stranded residents away from their flooded homes as the death toll from the weekend storms climbed to 28 people in three states.

The flash floods caused by record-breaking amounts of rain caught many off-guard, forcing thousands to frantically flee their homes and hotels. The rapidly rising waters led to the deaths of 17 people in Tennessee alone, including 10 in Nashville, and officials feared that the death toll could increase. Officials announced the latest deaths late Monday after receding flood waters revealed six more bodies.

"Do we suspect to find more people? Probably so. We certainly hope that it's not a large number," said Metro Nashville Davidson County Fire Chief Kim Lawson.

"You never think something like this will happen in Nashville,"

Nashville's Music Community Devastated By Floods

clipped from new.music.yahoo.com

What started out as a heavy weekend storm in the Southeast ended up as record flooding in Tennessee this week--killing at least 19 people, destroying roads and property, and driving President Obama to declare parts of the state major disaster areas.

The rain, of course, didn't spare Nashville or its music community. Most notably, the legendary country landmark the Grand Ole Opry House is currently under six feet of water, with as-yet-unknown damage to its historic collections. The overall cost of damages to the city is estimated to exceed $1 billion, according to Nashville mayor Karl Dean.

But country artists themselves have been affected sorely as well. While giving fervent thanks for being safe and sound, many artists still lamented the loss of musical equipment, damage to their homes, and shows canceled due to the disaster.

"The things I lost, I can replace, thank God," he added. "But there are people here that have lost their lives and their livelihood."

At least 22 killed as Southeast floods

Nashville flooding

Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen saw treetops poking through floodwaters as he viewed the damage during a helicopter tour Monday. "I've never seen flooding like this," he said.

At least two people died in Kentucky and one in Tennessee after their vehicles were swept from flooded highways, and long-haul truckers were trapped along Interstate 40 in Tennessee. More than 300 roads were reported flooded in Kentucky alone.

Nashville had its more severe flooding in 35 years, leaving part of the city's historic downtown deserted after residents and Music City tourists were evacuated. At least 6 feet of water from the overflowing Cumberland River coursed through the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, forcing 1,500 guests to flee to a high school.

Tenn. officials brace for more flooding, deaths

clipped from news.yahoo.com

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Officials in Nashville braced for more deaths Monday as the flooded Cumberland River continued to swell, sending muddy water rushing through neighborhoods and threatening the historic heart of Music City after a destructive line of weekend storms killed 21 people in Tennessee, Mississippi and Kentucky.

Using motor boats and canoes, authorities and volunteers rescued scores of residents trapped in flooded homes, some which looked like islands surround by dark river water. The downtown — home of a historic warehouse district that dates back to the 1800s and is now occupied by bars and restaurants — was nearly deserted after authorities evacuated residents and tourists. Floodwater spilled into some streets near the riverfront, and restaurants and bars in the warehouse district were closed. A few blocks away, the historic Ryman Auditorium, longtime former home of the Grand Ole Opry, was in no immediate danger.

Nashville’s Underwater – Obama’s Focused on the Gulf

I-24, west of Bell Road
With 11 people now confirmed dead falling victim to the worst flooding to Nashville in over a century, day breaks on the Music City only to illustrate the devastation left behind by a weekend of torrential downpours and unprecedented flooding.
Relief boats and rescue personnel are coming in the form of local citizens.  Absent from the footage is any sign of FEMA or any logos or monikers of federal agencies.   Tennesseans are strapping it on and making the best of an extremely difficult situation.  They don’t call this the Volunteer State for nothing now do they?
The morning’s images were that of rescue personnel transporting stranded patrons of local hotels across the newly created bodies of water.  They were of parking lots completely submerged with cars now lining the bottom of the muddy pools.
I am deeply saddened and tremendously troubled by how little this tragedy has been carried by the national media.

After record flooding, Tennessee to get more rain

clipped from www.cnn.com
(CNN) -- Tennessee can expect two to three more inches of rain Sunday, a day after a heavy downpour triggered severe flooding and killed at least five people.

Two people were killed Saturday when their SUV was caught in flood waters in Dover, about 80 miles northwest of Nashville, an emergency management official said.

One more person was reported dead in Davidson County, a spokeswoman for the Nashville mayor's office said.

The other two deaths were in Williamson County and Carroll County, said Jeremy Heidt, spokesman for Tennessee Emergency Management.

"This is one of the most severe rain events Nashville has ever experienced," Nashville Mayor Karl Dean said in a statement.

Dean said more than 50 water rescues had been conducted Saturday, and more were under way.

"I urge all Nashville residents to stay home and stay off the roads," Dean said.

Wyoming: Any agent of the U.S. who “enforces or attempts to enforce” federal gun rules on a “personal firearm” faces conviction.

United States and Wyoming State FlagsImage by J. Stephen Conn via Flickr

Wyoming has joined a growing list of states with self-declared exemptions from federal gun regulation of weapons made, bought and used inside state borders – but lawmakers in the Cowboy State have taken the issue one step further, adopting significant penalties for federal agents attempting to enforce Washington’s rules.

According to a law signed into effect yesterday by Democratic Gov. Dave Freudenthal, any agent of the U.S. who “enforces or attempts to enforce” federal gun rules on a “personal firearm” in Wyoming faces a felony conviction and a penalty of up to two years in prison and up to $2,000 in fines.

WND reported just days ago when Utah became the third state, joining Montana and Tennessee, to adopt an exemption from federal regulations for weapons built, sold and kept within state borders.

A lawsuit is pending over the Montana law, which was the first to go into effect.
