Obama Wins Unlikely Allies in Immigration

Obama Wins Unlikely Allies in Immigration

It's actions like these that really shows me how lost many Churches and their leaders are today. Do they not take any time to read the bill themselves?
To see Church leaders standing up for something they apparently have no clue about. Really makes me question these Churches.
    I find this very sad.

At a time when the prospects for immigration overhaul seem most dim, supporters have unleashed a secret weapon: a group of influential evangelical Christian leaders.

Normally on the opposite side of political issues backed by the Obama White House, these leaders are aligning with the president to support an overhaul that would include some path to legalization for illegal immigrants already here. They are preaching from pulpits, conducting conference calls with pastors and testifying in Washington — as they did last Wednesday.
"I am a Christian and I am a conservative and I am a Republican, in that order," said Matthew D. Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, a conservative religious law firm. "There is very little I agree with regarding President Barack Obama. On the other hand, I'm not going to let politicized rhetoric or party affiliation trump my values, and if he's right on this issue, I will support him on this issue."
When President Obama gave a major address pushing immigration overhaul this month, he was introduced by a prominent evangelical, the Rev. Bill Hybels of Willow Creek Community Church in Illinois. Three other evangelical pastors were in the audience, front and center.

Congress is unlikely to pass an immigration law this year. Republicans and Democrats who face re-election in November are skittish about the issue, given the broad public support for Arizona's new law aiming to crack down on illegal immigration.
The support of evangelical leaders is not yet enough to change the equation. But they could mobilize a potentially large constituency of religious conservatives, an important part of the Republican base better known for lobbying against abortion and same-sex marriage. They already threaten the party's near unity on immigration.

About 70 percent of Hispanics in the United States are Catholic, but some 15 percent are evangelicals, and they are far more likely than the Catholics to identify themselves as conservative and Republican.
Evangelicals at the grass-roots level are divided on immigration, just as the nation is. But among the leaders, recent interviews suggest that those in favor of an immigration overhaul are far more vocal and more organized than those who oppose it.

RTÉ.ie News: Crosses Divisive issue

A call by a German politician of Turkish origin for a ban on Christian crosses in state schools has sparked uproar in her conservative party and death threats from far-right groups.

Ayguel Oezkan, the 38-year-old daughter of Turkish immigrants, is poised to become social minister in the centre-right government of the western state of Lower Saxony, and called for the ban in an interview with a German magazine.

'Christian symbols do not belong in state schools,' she told weekly Focus last week. 'Schools should be a neutral place.'

Members of her party, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) of Chancellor Angela Merkel, have been quick to denounce the comments and some are demanding she renounce her regional minister role, which she is due to assume tomorrow.

'Politicians who want to ban crosses in schools should think about whether they belong in a Christian party

NYT/CBS Poll: 52% Say Obama Moving America Towards Socialism

clipped from www.cnsnews.com
(CNSNews.com) – A New York Times/CBS News poll found that a majority of Americans, 52 percent, think the policies of President Barack Obama are moving the United States toward socialism

Published April 14, the poll surveyed the political, racial, and social opinions of both the general pubic and self-described members of the tea party movement. It found that while tea party participants are generally more conservative than the broader population, they are also better educated and slightly more successful.

The poll found that almost the entirety of the tea party movement – 92 percent – shared the views of most Americans that Obama was turning the United States into a socialist country.

The poll asked respondents specifically whether the president’s policies “are moving the country more toward socialism.” Fifty-two percent answered “toward socialism” while only 38 percent answered “not toward socialism.”

Big Government supporters have also woken up -- to a NIGHTMARE.

The Grassroots of America have WOKEN UP -- and we're taking our country back.

The Republican Party is finally learning to stop taking the PEOPLE for granted, instead of running as "conservatives" and then governing as "Democrat light" once they're elected.
And the Democrat Party is finally realizing that, thanks to their attempts to turn America into a socialist country, they could LOSE both houses of Congress, AND they face massive losses in state house races around the country.

So how do they respond? Do they repent? Do they "come clean"? Do they start doing the will of the people and obeying the Constitution?

NO -- instead, the same old political hacks like Bill Clinton and James Carville are planning to "take down" Tea Party leaders with large-scale attacks on the leaders themselves -- the old "politics of personal destruction."
And the message we're delivering to them is: you're going to fail, because WE THE PEOPLE ARE THE TEA PARTY LEADERS!
