Federal appeals court: Saying “Jesus” during public prayer is unconstitutional

Federal appeals court: Saying “Jesus” during public prayer is unconstitutional
As in most counties in America, the Board of Commissioners of Forsyth County, North Carolina, begins its public meetings with an invocation. These prayers are given by local religious leaders on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Given that 95 percent of local religious houses identify as Christian, it’s not surprising that many of the invocations include specifically Christian language, often closing the prayer in the name of “Jesus Christ” or “Jesus.”
Two non-Christians from the community with a population of approximately 350,000 sued, arguing that an invocation mentioning Jesus Christ during a public prayer violates the Establishment Clause of the Constitution.
Even though the pair acknowledged that the Supreme Court held public prayers—called “legislative prayers”—are constitutional in the 1983 case Marsh v. Chambers, the federal district court in North Carolina sided with the protestors.
In a stunning decision, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit affirmed that judgment in a 2-to-1 decision, holding in the case Joyner v. Forsyth County that prayers unconstitutionally advance Christianity if references to Jesus are more than isolated, or if the content is otherwise too Christian for the court’s taste.
Writing for the majority, Judge Harvie Wilkinson - a respected appellate judge who was appointed by President Reagan - wrote that public prayers are for the purpose of welcoming and including the community to be involved in government. (That’s odd. I always thought it was to ask for God’s blessing.)
The predominance of Christian prayers violated Judge Wilkinson’s novel understanding, and so, joined by Barbara Keenan, who was appointed by President Obama, the court struck down the county’s longstanding practice, calling it “sectarian.”
Judge Paul Victor Niemeyer, a judicial conservative regarded as one of the smartest judges on the federal bench, wrote in a strong dissent: “Thus … the majority has dared to step in and regulate the language of prayer—the sacred dialogue between humankind and God. Such a decision treats prayer agnostically; reduces it to a civil nicety; … Most frightfully, it will require secular [authorities] to evaluate and parse particular religious prayers…”

Got your permit to study the Bible?

The Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments t...Image via WikipediaSomehow this reminds of something I read before. A permit to study your Bible. Hmmm? Oh wait, it's in the Bible. As they murdered the Christians for believing in Jesus Christ instead of following Roman Catholics Doctrines. As Christians in America. This should be fought. Question is will they?
http://www.wnd.com/index.php?pageId=99738
Recently, a California pastor and his wife were required by San Diego County officials to obtain a permit to hold a Bible study in their home.
"What?! Is this a joke?" I wondered as I heard the news for the first time. It was no joke. Rather it's a First Amendment nightmare and possibly a precedent of what's to come.
Are you prepared for a future in which you might someday hear the question, "Got your permit to study the Bible?"
On April 10 (Good Friday), a county code enforcement officer visited the home of David and Mary Jones after receiving a complaint about their Christian gatherings. The Jones' attorney Dean Broyles, president of The Western Center for Law & Policy, conveyed in disbelief, "The county asked [Mrs. Jones], 'Do you have a regular meeting in your home?' She said, 'Yes.' 'Do you say amen?' 'Yes.' 'Do you pray?' 'Yes.' 'Do you say praise the Lord?' 'Yes.'"
The officer then warned the family to "cease and desist" the "religious assemblies" or they would face fines up to $1,000 weekly (or more). Two days later, the county delivered a citation claiming that the Joneses were guilty of "unlawful use of land," mandating them to "stop religious assembly or apply for a major use permit."
At first I thought, "They must have a large congregation meeting in their home to warrant this type of citation and prompt this type of commotion," right? Actually, according to their lawyer, the Joneses have been hosting weekly Bible studies in their home for about five years with an average attendance of only about 15 people.
Attorney Broyles appropriately responded, "If the county thinks they can shut down groups of 10 or 15 Christians meeting in a home, what about people who meet regularly at home for poker night? What about people who meet for Tupperware parties? What about people who are meeting to watch baseball games on a regular basis and support the Chargers?"

Hawaii Senate Ends Daily Chamber Prayers | CNSnews.com

Anti-ACLU-2Image via WikipediaA Court System without Jesus Christ in it, makes me wonder if there is ever a reason to want to go to Hawaii anymore. What I find odd is, the it only takes one person to complain about Praying or having Under God in the Pledge of Allegiance or to take the Ten Commandments out of the Court Houses and all of sudden like magic these people do it? For so many people to claim Unconstitutional that have clearly never read it or even took a good look at the people who wrote it just makes my brain rattle.

Before you read the article below, I want to reflect on what those Commandments are.

http://www.the-ten-commandments.org/the-ten-commandments.html
The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:2-17 NKJV)
1 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.
2 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My Commandments.
3 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
4 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
5 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
6 “You shall not murder.
7 “You shall not commit adultery.
8 “You shall not steal.
9 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10 “You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.”

Now, let me get this right. These Laws are now all of a sudden Unconstitutional?
It's OK to Murder and Steal? To Lie and Cheat?
The foundational laws of this land is from the Bible. Yet so many listen to one person and remove these.
Now they want to leave Jesus Christ out of the Courts and remove Prayer.
My God! How stupid has this Country become? Hawaii being the first. You know they will try to spread the disease as always.
Christians Stand Up for what you know to be true.

http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/hawaii-senate-ends-daily-chamber-prayers
Honolulu (AP) - Fearing a possible court challenge, Hawaii's state Senate has voted to silence the daily prayer offered before each session began - making it the first state legislative body in the nation to halt the practice.
A citizen's complaint had prompted the American Civil Liberties Union last summer to send the Senate a letter noting that its invocations often referenced Jesus Christ, contravening the separation of church and state.
That prompted the state attorney general's office to advise the Senate that their handling of prayers - by inviting speakers from various religions to preach before every session - wouldn't survive a likely court challenge, said Democratic Majority Leader Brickwood Galuteria.
"Above all, our responsibility is to adhere to the Constitution," Galuteria said after Thursday's vote to halt the daily blessings.
A three-member Senate committee formed to evaluate the issue recommended allowing nonsectarian, nonpolitical invocations that avoided references to deities, but the legislative body decided to do away with prayers altogether rather than constrain them.
"They (the ACLU) continue to threaten governments with lawsuits to try to force them into capitulating to their view of society," said Brett Harvey, an attorney for the Alliance Defense Fund, made up of Christian lawyers to defend free faith speech. "Governments should take a stand for this cherished historical practice."

Going beyond disrespect for Jesus

Going beyond disrespect for Jesus

The movie " Corpus Christi " is due to be released this June to August.  A disgusting film set to appear in America later this year depicts Jesus and his disciples as homosexuals!  As a play, this has already been in theaters for a while.  It's called " Corpus Christi " which means "The Body of Christ".  It's revolting mockery of our Lord.  But we can make a difference.  That's why I am sending this e-mail to you.  If you do send this around, we just might be able to prevent this film from showing in America ..  Let's stand for what we believe in and stop the mockery of Jesus Christ our Savior.  Where do we stand as Christians?  At the risk of a bit of inconvenience, I'm forwarding this to all I think would appreciate it, too.

Please help us prevent such offenses against our Lord.  There is no petition to sign, no time limit, or minimum number of people to send this to..  It will take you less than 2 minutes!  If you are not interested and do not have the 2 minutes it will take to do this, please don't complain when God does not have time for you because He is far busier than we are.  Hey, it's worth a shot!  Apparently, some regions in Europe have already banned the film.  All we need is a lot of prayer and a lot of e-mails.

JUST GET THE WORD OUT

The Voice of the Martyrs encourages you to pray for Pastor Ravi, his church and all believers in India. VOM assists believers in India and Christian workers like Pastor Ravi with Christian literature and Bibles.
