Space Shuttle Atlantis – Last trip to space

clipped from www.ldjackson.net

AtlantisI would be severely amiss if I failed to mention the milestone that is scheduled to take place later this afternoon. Conditions at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida look favorable for the Space Shuttle Atlantis to lift off on her final voyage to space. After she flies, there will be two remaining shuttle missions, both taking place before the end of the year.

During her 25 years of voyages to space, Atlantis has accomplished manyAtlantis and Magellan things. Does anyone remember the Magellan Mission to Venus? It was the first planetary explorer spacecraft and it was the first to be launched from a space shuttle. Atlantis carried Magellan to low Earth orbit on May 4, 1989 and set on it’s way from her cargo bay.

Atlantis and Magellan

Godspeed, Atlantis. Keep your crew safe and when you return from space for the last time, you can rest in peace.
