Pakistan’s Punjab Bans Christian Protests Citing “Terrorism Threats”

clipped from www.bosnewslife.com
Citing "terrorism threats", the government of Pakistan's Punjab province banned protests Monday,  March 22, against the "refusal" by police to detain those who burned a Christian man for not converting to Islam, while raping his wife.
It wasn't clear who had made the threats. Officials of Pakistan's Christian minority expressed concerns however about attacks by Islamic extremists, including fighters linked to al-Qaida and other militant groups.

Monday's demonstrations were to be organized in the cities of Lahore and Rawilpindi, where police and religious leaders allegedly attacked the Christian couple Friday, March 19.

Christian rights groups said they have given "24 hours to the Punjab police to arrest the culprits" and "to compensate the three small children" who were apparently forced to watch the rape of their mother and the burning of their father.
The officers are also suspected of having raped his wife, 33-year-old Martha Masih
38-year-old Arshed Masih may not survive

clipped from www.worthynews.com
The government of Pakistan's most populous province announced an investigation Sunday, March 21, into reports that a Christian man was burned and his wife raped by local police and Muslim religious leaders for refusing to convert to Islam.
"The matter will be investigated and the culprits will be arrested," Punjab's Minister of Law Rana Sanaullah told Worthy News and its news partner BosNewsLife.
Meanwhile, doctors at Punjab's Holy Family Hospital in the city of Rawalpindi warned that their patient, 38-year-old Arshed Masih, would not be able to survive with 80 percent of his body burned.
The officers are also suspected of having raped his wife, 33-year-old Martha Masih, in the police station where the couple was held for questioning, said Police Superintendent Moin Shah. "The victimized family will get justice," he told Worthy News.
The attacks were allegedly instigated by the couple's Muslim employer, businessman Sheikh Mohammad Sultan, because he was upset they refused to embrace Islam.

Could you imagine what people would do if this was done with the Bible? Yet for some reason people think it's OK with the Koran?
We live in some very strange times.

ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN (Worthy News)-- A Christian man continued serving a life sentence Pakistan's Punjab province Tuesday, February 23, on what international rights activists said are "false allegations" of blasphemy.

A Pakistani court in the city of Faisalabad sentenced Imran Masih, 26, to life imprisonment and fined him 100,000 Pakistani Rupees (about $1200) on January 11, after his Muslim neighbor accused him of burning the Koran, seen a holy book by Muslims.

Masih has denied the charges saying he came across Arabic literature while cleaning his shop.

He said that before trashing it, he asked his Muslim neighbor whether the book was Islamic literature. After being assured that it was not an Islamic book, Masih apparently burned the book.

His neighbor however showed the half-burned book to passersby and accused Masih of desecrating the Koran, Christians said. Soon after, local mosques apparently incited Muslims to attack Masih by announcing that he had desecrated the Koran.

ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN (Worthy News)-- A Christian father in Pakistan's Punjab province was without his home Monday, February 15, as his house was burned down by angry Muslims who killed his son in 2008, rights activists said.

Three Muslim brothers and their accomplices allegedly torched Walayat Masih's house in the city of Gujranwala on January 26, eighteen months after they allegedly killed his eldest son, said U.S.-based advocacy group International Christian Concern (ICC).

Their motives were not clear Monday, February 15. News of both incidents only emerged now as local local police told the victim "to keep quiet" about the violent acts, according to rights investigators. "Unfortunately this is a normal occurrence for Christians in Pakistan," ICC said.

There was no immediate comment from local police, but authorities have come under international pressure to improve protection of minority Christians in the mainly Muslim nation.

Two Christians Critically Wounded at Wedding in Pakistan

AK-47Image via Wikipedia

  • "Still in intensive care, they were shot for refusing order to convert to Islam. TOBA TEK SINGH, Pakistan, January 14 (CDN) — Two Pakistani Christians who were shot at a wedding on Dec. 26 for refusing to convert to Islam are still receiving treatment at a hospital intensive care unit, but doctors are hopeful that they will recover. In low, barely audible voices, Imran Masih, 21, and Khushi Masih, 24, told Compass that two Muslims armed with AK-47s in Punjab Province’s Chak (village) 297-JB, in Toba Tek Singh district, shot them in their chests after they refused orders to recite the Islamic creed signifying conversion. Soon after they arrived at the wedding, a group of Muslim youths armed with AK-47 assault rifles surrounded them and began shooting into the air, as is customary at village weddings. They were not alarmed, they said, assuming the young Muslim men were simply celebrating joyfully. “One of the green-turban-wearing Muslims peremptorily told us to recite the Islamic holy Kalima [profession of faith] or face direct bullets and the lethal consequences,” said Khushi Masih. Both Christians said that they joyfully refused, and instead they began reciting Psalm 91. “Our decision infuriated them,” Imran Masih said, “and instead of shooting into the air, they shot us, leaving us only after being convinced that we were dead. Praise the name of Lord Jesus Christ, who raised us from the dead!” "
