CHICAGO — A colossal blizzard roaring across a third of the country paralyzed the nation's heartland with ice and snow, leaving motorists stranded for hours and shuttering airports and schools as it barreled toward the Northeast.
In Ohio alone, more than 200,000 homes and business were without power as trees downed by snow, ice and wind cut power lines. In the Chicago area, some 123,000 utility customers saw their electricity cut overnight. Crews had reduced that to 59,000 by midday.- Get updates

In the Northeast, Boston saw heavy snow Tuesday followed by rain on Wednesday and then the likelihood of iced-over streets by nightfall. Several building roofs collapsed due to the weight, though no injuries were reported.
