Biometrics for Identification
There are advantages and disadvantages of biometric security measures from both a technical and a social perspective.
As of last week, any person arrested and fingerprinted in California will now undergo an automatic immigration check. Biometric security measures are in widespread use, yet many issues are still debated - including privacy concerns. In this article, we are going to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of biometric security measures from both a technical and a social perspective.
California became the ninth state in which each county has activated Secure Communities, a fingerprint data-sharing program between local law enforcement offices and federal immigration enforcement agencies. Other states with complete activation include Texas, West Virginia, Florida, Arizona, Delaware, Virginia, Wisconsin and New Mexico.
Brighthub.com reports that biometric systems are used for identification and authentication, measuring and comparing people’s biological and behavioral properties such as fingerprints and voice, for example. Thus, taking into consideration the definition (*) of biometrics as characteristics, all biometric processes inherently rely on biometric security measures.
Biometric security measures can also be conceived as devices and systems which are designed to make something more secure, for instance a passport, by including a microchip containing data such as the passport owner’s facial, iris and fingerprint biometrics.
Secure Communities
The California Department of Emergency Services defines Secure Communities as a program between U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Justice that automatically sends name and fingerprint information submitted through a federal file-sharing system, where it’s checked against both the FBI criminal history records and biometrics-based immigration records in the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Automated Biometric Identification System.
Secure Communities is one more stopgap to learn whether people are being honest about their immigration status,” a sheriff commander in Orange County stated. “Without this, we wouldn’t know that DHS would want to have contact with them; it’s automatic.”

North Korea has used sophisticated jamming equipment to block South Korean military signals and disrupt its guided missiles.
South Korea's Yonhap news agency is reporting that strong jamming signals were transmitted from the communist North last week.
The jamming is believed to have prevented some US and South Korean bombs from hitting their targets during a military drill

SEOUL, March 8 (UPI) -- Seoul has accused North Korea of using sophisticated jamming systems to block South Korean military signals and disrupt its guided missiles.
South Korea's Yonhap news agency said the strong jamming signals have been transmitting from the northern border city of Keasong since last week.
The purported purpose of the jamming was to disrupt navigational devices using Global Positioning Systems as a major joint military exercise is under way northwest of Seoul.
The jamming is believed to have prevented some U.S and South Korean bombs from hitting their targets during a military drill. The Korea Communications Commission said they caused minor inconvenience last week.

KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Pictures you’ve e-mailed or uploaded from your smartphone could be leaking location information threatening your safety or that of your children.
“Perfect, just like that,” cooed NBC Action News staffer Susanne McDonald to her four-year-old daughter Laine as she took a series of smartphone pictures. “Ready? One, two, three! Good Girl.”

We loaned McDonald and Laine a smartphone to see just how threatening a seemingly innocent snapshot could be once loaded online.
Police are concerned
“It's frightening,” said Leawood School Resource Police Officer Mark Chudik when we showed him what we had uncovered.
We combed Twitter and sites like Facebook , Craig's List, and Photobucket .
We searched by entering the names of area cities.  We easily identified the home addresses and play areas of children whose pictures were posted by their parents.

How to deactivate your geotagging
The site icanstalku.com reposts pictures from unwitting Twitter users in real time, translating their photos into actual addresses and maps.
The site also lists a how to deactivate geotagging on the iPhone, Blackberry with GPS, Google Android, and Palm WebOS.
The site recommends restricting which applications can access GPS marking, or turning off location services altogether, in your smartphone settings.

Sun begins new solar cycle, flinging radiation at the Earth

Ezekiel 38:18 “And it will come to pass at the same time, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” says the Lord GOD, “that My fury will show in My face. 19 For in My jealousy and in the fire of My wrath I have spoken: ‘Surely in that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel, 20 so that the fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field, all creeping things that creep on the earth, and all men who are on the face of the earth shall shake at My presence. The mountains shall be thrown down, the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.’ 21 I will call for a sword against Gog throughout all My mountains,” says the Lord GOD. “Every man’s sword will be against his brother. 22 And I will bring him to judgment with pestilence and bloodshed; I will rain down on him, on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, flooding rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. 23 Thus I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the LORD.”’

A photo illiustration shows streams of radiation emanating from the sun

As a new solar cycle of activity begins this year, the Earth will once again be bombarded with increased radiation from the sun. This effect may damage satellites and interfere with GPS, television and communications.

In ancient history, men would sometimes look up into the extreme northern or southern skies and see flickering green or blue lights shimmering across heavens. These auroras were often attributed to the gods, for what else could explain such displays?

An infographic shows varying levels of radiation coming from the sun over a peroid of 11 years
An infographic depicts radiation from the sun interacting with the Earth's magnetic field
"Space weather can disable satellites, cause power grid failures and disrupt global positioning, television and telecommunication signals,"
the effect is caused by charged particles from the sun colliding with the Earth's magnetic field.

But for hikers, drivers, pilots and ship's captains, perhaps the biggest concern is that interference from the solar radiation could mislead or disable their global positioning system (GPS) signal.
