Lockheed Martin presents airship of the future (1:38)

Aug. 18 - Inflatable aircrafts have been around since the Montgolfier brothers developed the first untethered hot-air balloon in 1782, but 200 years later, they are making a high-tech resurgence for both civilian and military use. U.S. aerospace company Lockheed Martin's version is called the P-791 airship, which it hopes is about to take off. Rob Muir reports. ( Transcript )

Mission impossible: Escape from Europe

clipped from news.yahoo.com

VIENNA – Stranded travelers are piling into buses, trains and high-priced taxis in a frantic scramble to accomplish an increasingly tricky mission: Escape from Europe.

Spain was becoming a dream destination not for its beaches and monuments but simply by virtue of the fact it's one of the few European countries unaffected by the ash cloud drifting across the continent.

Monstrous lines filled the departure terminals at Madrid's Bajaras Airport as people sought a chance to flee — and tempers were fraying.

"I am on the standby list and I am homeless right now," said Roberta Marder, 73, from Tulsa, Oklahoma. "I am here fighting in the line and trying to get a ticket."

Doug Hahn, 36, from Portland, Oregon was settling into his seat Thursday on a New York-bound plane in Amsterdam when the flight was canceled. He and three other stranded travelers rented a car and drove to Madrid — a 16 hour road journey.

IDF welcomes 'super-drone'

New unmanned aircraft can fly higher, stay in air longer than other drones
The IDF is about to receive what is considered the world's best unmanned aircraft – the Eitan.
On Sunday, the Air Force will be receiving the Israeli-made drone, which had already been tested on several occasions, including during operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip.

The Air Force's drone fleet has experienced a leap in recent years, and has been taking over increasingly more missions traditionally performed by manned aircraft – especially in the areas of intelligence gathering, escorting and protecting forces, and creating the Air Force's "target bank."
The Eitan's role would be to operate in the highest altitudes, along with other aircraft flying at lower altitudes. The new drone will be providing an effective means at all theaters, with an emphasis on distant ones – including Iran.
