The quake hit 150 kilometers off the eastern coast of the peninsula in the Pacific Ocean at 4:00 p.m. local time [04:00 GMT]. There are no reports of damage to buildings or any casualties. The Kamchatka Peninsula also has several active volcanoes and is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region where 90% of the world's earthquakes and 80% of the world's largest earthquakes occur. |
