A terrorist attack in the village of El-Kadih near the Shia enclave of Qatif in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, when a suicide bomber detonated himself in a local mosque during the Friday prayers resulted in 20 people killed and more than 70 injured, and has marked a new chapter in the country’s modern history. The Kingdom has never witnessed such a large scale attack, even during the period of 2003-2006, when Al Qaeda made its infamous strikes in Jeddah and Riyadh.

It’s crucial to note that there’s a big difference between the events that happened ten years ago and those happening now. Back then terrorist attacks were the evil doings of Osama bin Laden aimed at striking the royal family at its heart, while cells of Al Qaeda Islamists were scattered all across the region, organizing attacks that were aimed at getting maximum media exposure.

Today the situation is fundamentally different, since responsibility for yesterday’s attack was claimed by ISIL which keeps under its control a considerable part of both Iraq and Syria. In fact, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has recently been manifesting features of a quasi-state with its own army, territory, financial institutions, propaganda capabilities and education system. One year since the moment of its official creation this terrorist organization has managed to radically change the balance of power, rapidly transforming into a major regional player that determines trends in the Middle East.

clipped from news.yahoo.com TAIPEI, Taiwan – Taiwan's Foxconn Technology Group, shaken by a spate of suicides at its China plants, said Wednesday it is raising the pay of workers by 30 percent, a greater increase than first planned. The company, which makes iPhones, iPads and other electronic gadgets, said the pay increase will take effect immediately at its plants across China. "With the pay raise, we hope workers don't need to work overtime as much and thus gain more time for leisure and have a happier working environment," said a Foxconn official who asked for anonymity because he was not an authorized spokesman. The basic salary at Foxconn's China plants is currently about 900 yuan ($130) per month. Ten workers have killed themselves and three have attempted suicide at Foxconn's operations in southern China this year, involving mainly workers who jumped from buildings. Labor activists accuse the company of having a rigid management style, an excessively fast assembly line and forced overwork.

Dutch plan to let healthy elderly people commit suicide

clipped from www.telegraph.co.uk Healthy elderly people who are simply "tired of living" could be allowed to end their lives with a lethal injection under new euthanasia laws being debated by the Dutch parliament. The country's MPs will discuss the "right to die" proposals after a campaign forced a debate by collecting over 100,000 signatures in support. The influential Dutch "Right to Die" campaign, active since 1973, has launched new "vrijwillig levenseinde", or "of free will", demands to extend euthanasia beyond assisted suicide for terminally ill people. The group has proposed training non-medical staff to administer a lethal injection to healthy people over the age of 70 who "consider their lives complete" and want to die. Under the plans, the suicide assistants would be certified and would be required to make sure that patients were not temporarily depressed and had a "heartfelt and enduring desire" to die.

Francisco Lotero and Miriam Coletti in Argentina shot their 2-year old son and 7-month old daughter before killing themselves…over concerns about Al Gore’s sci-fi fantasy about anthropogenic global warming. Liberals are almost by definition very irrational and inconsistent, and their aversion to logic is pretty much the only thing that saves them from the total disaster of the consequences of their ideas.
