Thousands march in Yemen to demand change of government - Yahoo! News

Map of the modern state of Yemen. Map of Yemen...Image via WikipediaSeems Tunisia, has sparked a fire in many more people. I seem to recall the United State having this same type of influence on the World. Well its seems its happening again. After all this time of history repeating itself. You would think that Governments and Leaders would learn from it. But of course with same old attitude. That was hundreds years ago or that's the old way of thinking. People will only tolerate so much.
Take a mans freedom away all that's left is war.

SANAA (Reuters) – Thousands of Yemenis took to the streets of Sanaa Thursday to demand a change of government, inspired by the unrest that has ousted Tunisia's leader and spread to Egypt this week.
Reuters witnesses estimated that around 16,000 Yemenis demonstrated in four parts of Sanaa in the largest rally since a wave of protests rocked Yemen last week, and protesters vowed to escalate the unrest unless their demands were met.
"The people want a change in president," protesters shouted, holding signs that also demanded improvements to living conditions in Yemen, the Arab world's poorest country.
President Ali Abdullah Saleh, a key ally of the United States in a war against a resurgent al Qaeda wing based in Yemen, has ruled this Arabian Peninsula state for over 30 years.
"If the (ruling) party doesn't respond to our demands, we will escalate this until the president falls, just like what happened in Tunisia," said protester Ayub Hassan.
A few dozen policemen with batons silently watched the protests, which ended calmly as demonstrators left to chew qat, a mild stimulant leaf widely consumed in Yemen in the afternoon.
Yemen's ruling party ran a competing pro-government protest that gathered only a few hundred supporters, witnesses said.
Yemen, in the shadow of the world's top oil exporter Saudi Arabia, is struggling with soaring unemployment and dwindling oil and water reserves. Almost half its 23 million people live on $2 a day or less, and a third suffer from chronic hunger.
Mohammed al-Sharfy, a student protester at the Sanaa University rally of around 10,000 protesters, said economic disparities needed to be addressed.
"I am here to say no to corruption. We need to end this trend of graduating thousands of university students each year with no jobs, while officials and their kids take everything."

The first edition of Yemen-based Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula's (AQAP) Inspire magazine was released on Sunday, according to SITE Intelligence, a US service that monitors Islamist websites.

Inspire -- a 67-page publication provided by SITE from jihadist forums that are sometimes password-protected or otherwise difficult to access -- appears to have been designed with care.

Its cover features an image of a silhouetted man with a rifle under the headline "May Our Souls Be Sacrificed For You!," an article attributed to radical US-Yemeni cleric Anwar al-Awlaki.

The "Make a Bomb" article notes that a device made in "one or two days could be ready to kill at least ten people," while one made in a month "could kill tens of people."

"What to Expect in Jihad" offers advice for those who decide to take the fight abroad.

It also suggests that would-be mujahedeen (holy warriors) bring a friend with them, and that they learn as much as possible about local culture before travelling.

Terror Attacks Against U.S. At All-Time High

number of attempted terror attacks against US higher than any other year

The pace and number of attempted terror attacks against the U.S. over the past nine months has surpassed the number of attempts during any previous one-year period, according to an internal Department of Homeland Security report issued on Friday, May 21.

The report notes chillingly that while US officials "lack insights" they believe that "operatives are in the country and could advance plotting with little or no warning."

The report notes that al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and the Pakistani Taliban have "expanded their focus" to include the United States

More worrisome even that these attacks -- both of which involve suspects who allegedly spent time at terror camps abroad -- is the possibility, states the DHS document, of "an attack strategy that does not rely on outside support or travel abroad," which "diminishes opportunities for discovery and disruption."

Yemen's al-Qaeda calls for jihad against Jews, Christians

Osama bin Laden thanks America for Barack Obam...Image by Zooomabooma via Flickr

Yet time and time again. All we hear is how peaceful this Religion is? For those that don't know what Jihad means. It means Holy War. Which also includes the War of Armageddon.

"We advise you, our people in the Peninsula, to prepare and carry your weapons and to defend your religion and yourselves and to join your mujahideen brothers," he said.

Deputy leader of terror group's Yemen-based wing says, 'We advise people in Arabian Peninsula to prepare and carry your weapons and to defend your religion and yourselves'

The Yemen-based wing of al-Qaeda called
on Muslims in the Arabian Peninsula to wage jihad, or holy war, against Christians and Jews in the region.

Shehri said the Yemen-based wing's failed bomb attack on a US bound plane in December had been carried out in coordination with network leader Osama bin Laden. Bin Laden claimed responsibility for the attack in January, weeks after the al-Qaeda in Yemen first said it was behind the operation.

U.S. says Yemen group one of many al Qaeda branches | Reuters

World At congressional hearings, U.S. officials painted a picture of an al Qaeda that has expanded from Afghanistan to Iraq, the Arabian peninsula, Africa and southeast Asia. "Al Qaeda is now difficult to define," Admiral Eric Olson commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command, told a House of Representatives Armed Services subcommittee. "More than two dozen associated ... groups have established themselves in Iraq, the Arabian peninsula, the Horn of Africa, the trans-Saharan region, the Maghreb of north Africa, west Africa and southeast Asia, and there are several different groups now operating within and from Afghanistan and Pakistan," Olson said. Olson said al Qaeda's forces have been regenerated in part by extremists who had been detained, were released and then joined militant groups. He said officials estimate about one fifth of former detainees are "somehow re-engaging in activity ... against our interests." Critics of Obama's call to close the prison at the U.S. military base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have cited the movement of former detainees to militant groups as reason to keep the facility."

Yemeni clerics warn of jihad if US sends troops | World news | guardian.co.uk

A Jihad for LoveImage via Wikipedia

  • "A group of prominent Muslim clerics in Yemen warned today that they will call for jihad – holy war – if the US sends troops to fight al-Qaida in Yemen. The group of 15 clergymen includes the highly influential Sheikh Abdul-Majid al-Zindani, whom the US has branded a spiritual mentor of Osama bin Laden but who is also courted by the Yemeni government. The clerics' warning goes straight to the Yemeni government's dilemma in co-operating with Washington against an al-Qaida offshoot. In doing so, Yemen's weak regime must avoid upsetting al-Zindani and other radical Islamic figures whose support it needs to stay in power. "If any foreign country insists on aggression and the invasion of the country or interference, in a military or security way, Muslim sons are duty bound to carry out jihad and fight the aggressors," the clerics said in a statement. Barack Obama has said he does not plan to send US combat troops to Yemen, though Washington is increasing counterterrorism aid and training to Yemeni forces to fight al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula. Concern about the growing capabilities of Yemen's al-Qaida offshoot increased after the failed attempt to bomb a US airliner shortly before it landed in Detroit on Christmas Day. US investigators say the Nigerian suspect in the failed attack told them he received training and instructions from al-Qaida in Yemen. The group of clerics also said they believed an international conference on Yemen to be held on 27 January in London was intended to clear the way for the country's occupation by foreign nations. The conference is to be attended by the US and European countries."
