With temperatures plummeting under a clear winter sky, the Orion lines company warned more than 20,000 householders they would not be reconnected until at least Tuesday.
Residents were also being told to boil drinking water.
Christchurch Hospital said two of the people injured in the largest of the quakes, which measured magnitude 6.0 on the Richter scale, were still seriously ill.
Another 44 people were treated in the hospital's emergency department, most of the injuries resulting from falling building materials.
Officials expressed astonishment that no one was killed in the tremor, the biggest aftershock so far of the 6.3 quake on February 22 in which 181 people died.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Strong aftershocks rattled New Zealand's quake-devastated city of Christchurch again Monday, toppling one of the few buildings still standing downtown and sinking thousands of homes into darkness.
Bricks crashed down in the cordoned-off city center, where only workers have tread since it was devastated in February's major earthquake. About 200 people were there when the quakes struck Monday, and two were briefly trapped in a church. More than 40 people have been taken to hospitals with minor injuries from falling debris, the city council said.
"We are being enveloped with dust," ChristchurchMayor Bob Parker told New Zealand's National Radio. "It is very, very scary."
All across the city, people fled buildings in panic when a 5.2-magnitude quake struck during lunchtime; just over an hour later, a 6.0 hit, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Smaller quakes were also recorded.
Several buildings were damaged in the central city and suburbs.
"All the shops have fallen down," said Renee Murray, who works at a Domino's Pizza in a suburb. "Half of the roof has fallen in (but) they have not fully collapsed."
Thousands of aftershocks have followed the 6.3-magnitude quake that killed 181 people on Feb. 22. That tremor and its aftershocks have been very shallow, which along with proximity to the city, have made them very destructive. Monday's temblors were six miles (10 kilometers) deep, according to the USGS.

TOKYO – Sony began restoring its PlayStation Network service in the United States and Europe on Sunday after shutting down the service almost a month ago due to a massive security breach affecting over 100 million online accounts.
Restored operations are mainly limited to online gaming, chat and music streaming services. Sony said it aimed to fully restore the PlayStation Network by the end of May.
Sony also began Sunday a phased restoration of its Qriocity movie and music services which share the PlayStation Network's server, said Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. spokesman Satoshi Fukuoka.
Limited services will also resume in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the Middle East, and Sony said it will start restoring the service for users in Asia soon.
Sony's PlayStation network is a system that links gamers worldwide in live play. Sony shut it down on April 20 after discovering a hacker attack.
Sony said personal data, including credit card numbers, may have been stolen. But the company said Sunday it had not received any reports of the stolen information being used illegally.
Kazuho Hirai, chief of Sony Corp.'s PlayStation video game unit, said in a statement that the company has beefed up security measures to protect customers' personal data.
While the partial service allows users to enjoy video games and online chat, Sony said consumers still cannot buy video games or other content by using credit cards.
"While we understand the importance of getting our services back online, we did not rush to do so at the expense of extensively and aggressively testing our enhanced security measures," Hirai said.
Among the 100 million user accounts, Sony said about 92 million can access the limited PlayStation network service.

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand — Cheers erupted Wednesday as rescuers pulled a woman from a major building shattered in New Zealand's devastating earthquake, but the mood was dismal at another wreckage where police said all hopes of survivors were finished.
The confirmed death toll from Tuesday's magnitude-6.3 quake near the city of Christchurch rose to 75, and officials said it was almost sure to climb further. Police believe 100 people may have died in one building alone.
Some 300 people were listed as missing, as rescuers raced to find trapped survivors and imposed a strict nighttime curfew on the worst-hit areas.
One of the city's tallest buildings, the 27-floor Hotel Grand Chancellor, was in imminent danger of collapsing, with one corner sinking lower in the ground and the facade showing major buckling, Fire Service commander Mike Hall said.

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand – Office workers trapped under their collapsed buildings sent messages to the outside as rescuers with dogs scrambled to save them and dozens of others following a powerful earthquake that killed at least 65 in one of New Zealand's largest cities.
At least 100 people were reportedly missing and believed buried. Search teams assisted by floodlights and earth movers worked through dawn Wednesday, trying to dig through crumbled concrete, twisted metal and huge mounds of brick.
Medical workers brought the injured to a triage center set up in a park in central Christchurch, while military units patrolled near-empty streets disfigured by the huge cracks and canyons created in Tuesday's 6.3-magnitude quake, the second powerful temblor to hit Christchurch in five months.
The quake toppled the spire of the city's historic stone cathedral, flattened tall buildings and sent chunks of concrete and bricks hurtling onto cars, buses and pedestrians below.
Web designer Nathaniel Boehm was outside on his lunch break when the quake struck just before 1 p.m. He saw the eaves of buildings cascade onto the street, burying people below.
Others tried to claw their way in, but he didn't see anyone come out.
"People were covered in rubble, covered in several tons of concrete," he said. "It was horrific."

There have been mass deaths of fish too. Reports of fish deaths also in Arkansas and in Brazil, New Zealand and the State of Maryland. A bunch of fish were found dead in Kentucky and all were missing eyes.
It is my opinion that authorities are trying very hard to keep mass chaos from happening and are coming up with lame excuses and saying this kind of thing happens all the time. When was the last time you have seen or heard of this kind of occurrences?
Here are some of the theories that I have heard:
Chemtrails
They have been all over the internet. Trails that are left behind planes that seem to look like a crop-dusting.
A man in Arkansas had said he caught jars of the substance in the chemtrails and there seems to be large quantities of barium. Barium surley could kill fish and birds. Soluble barium compounds are poisonous. At low doses, barium acts as a muscle stimulant, whereas higher doses affect the nervous system, causing cardiac irregularities, tremors, weakness, anxiety, dyspnea and paralysis. This may be due to its ability to block potassium ion channels which are critical to the proper function of the nervous system.However, individual responses to barium salts vary widely, with some being able to handle barium nitrate casually without problems, and others becoming ill from working with it in small quantities.
New Madrid Fault
Another theory I have heard is the New Madrid fault is shifting and is causing this phenomenon.
If there is another earthquake at the New Madrid fault, it could cause widespread devastation in the Midwest United States.
Now, many may ask, why would a Loving God allow so much damage to the Earth? Let me show you why.
Many Churches today seem to ignore all the Prophecies. Those that have already been fulfilled and those that are still yet to come.

Both the birds of the heavens and the beasts have fled;
They are gone.
It goes on talking about what has already happened. Israel was desolate for hundreds of years until 1967's war when they finally took it back.
I posted this to show why and, since mankind will continue to shove God out of the way for their own personal pleasures. Why would anyone think this won't happen again? He talks about this as well.

Notice the water becoming bitter? With all the Chemtrails they are spraying out there. Why wouldn't it become bitter? Birds die, Fish die. Let alone destroy our atmosphere cause vegetation to die off. The list goes on and on.
As a Father, no matter how much my children do wrong I will always love them. As I look to Jesus. I can understand His Love. Now, He puts up with it time and time again. For hundreds and thousand of years. But, once the people totally forget him, ridicule him and back stab him. What is He left to do? Why would God want them Home if all they are going to do is exactly what Lucifer did? We live here now. But, we still have eternity to go through. Since many don't want to Love God anymore. The foundations of Earth are shaking. Just like the law of Gravity. It all works for a purpose. Each Law from the foundations are twisted misused and attitudes of greed, anger and lust all play a part in this. This Earth will pass away one day as a result of that.
Question is. Where do you plan to go from here?
Christ died for you to be able to go home. You don't have to. But, satan's home is and will be Hell. Made for him and his 3rd of angels that followed his lies. If we choose not to go home that is the only other place to go.
The choice is yours.
