Bing wants a mix of old and new money as well as federal stimulus money. Bing came into office saying he wants to compete for more grants and said most of the money he’s seeking is independent of stimulus funds. To date, the city has applied for nearly $300 million in grants, been awarded about $187 million but only received 10 to 12 percent of that money, city officials said.
